What worse then this is the parents being taken to court because they refuse to give ritalin to their childern.For medical negligence- process stared by the school in the 2 cases in this area. I worry about this because my son has been ritalin free for 2 yrs. and homeschooled for 2 yrs. He will be going back to school next yr. Not on ritalin but it is in his records and I at one time already went round and round with them about meds. Guest guest Posted January 6, 2001 Report Share Posted January 6, 2001 Working with children, I have had many a parent come to me with forms from their doctor for me to fill out about the child's behavior in an attempt to justify giving the child Ritalin. Because of lack of parenting skills, time due to working families, laziness and so on, there is an overabundance of this problem. When a child who really has a need comes through the door you know it. (By the way-I heard somewhere that most cases of ADHD are a by-product of a sleeping disorder). In today's society, every "hyper" child is a candidate for drugs. Of course he is hyper, of course he can't sit still. It is 8am and he has already had frosted flakes and pop tarts!!!! I think a lot of the problems rests at home. If children had proper nutrition and discipline, this would not be an over-exaggerated problem. Then we could focus on helping children (who really are suffering)with natural methods. I am so glad there are mom's like June who have the knowledge and try everything else first. Ryan doesn't have ADHD- even though that is what most of his doctors wanted to treat him for- It is easier. Ryan has Organic brain syndrome caused by status encephlopathy( brain injury at rest). He exhibits as a child with very severe ADHD, developmenatal delays and social skill delays. I have been told other parts of his brain need to overcome and work for the part that isn't working.For the life of me I never understood why or how they decided to put him on the drugs he was on. He's a good boy- He's very smart and loving- He is ten and does 5th grade school work- his maturity is only about at 7yrs or so.
