The last year or so, (dont know about prior) When they had the world wine contests and world bread baking contests, California did come in first. That includes France. I don't know about this year or prior as I said though. I know that some ofFrance's oldest and dearest vineyards and wineries, that families have owned for years, are being takin out for other things lately. Don't remember what will take there place, (forgot) It's so sad to see generations of farming and families being replaced for modern buildings, etc. I see where I am, going from beautiful land, pastures, to track homes, and the horrible commute. Median priced home in my County is now, $310,000, and growing each month. That is why I live in a small modular in a Mobile home park!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh well, I would love to be in a wine tasting contest, there is good wine everywhere, lol Have a nice day Take good care.
