Guest guest
Dear Jamie, You have it right there - Origanum Vulgare. According to dear Mrs Grieves this herb grows freely in England, asia, Europe, and North AFrica. (And in my front garden, year after year after year) The species of Marjoram (Origanum marjorama) is not an annual, but is treated as such, and this one does not have the oil properties that the Origanum vulgare has. I would presume the conditions under which the Oil of Oregano that is sold, are grown, are ideal for the oil. Like some wines can only be grown in certain areas of France that can NEVER be duplicated by California. However, if you ask a Californian, they will swear that their wine is just as good......(Up California!!) So, I am sure, that , if one grows the Origanum Vulgare you are using the same plant. And, on the basis that one uses the plants around one, it would probably be better for you than the one that is imported. Thank you for your research. Accessing Mrs. Grieves site onthe Net will give anyone else the data that I have mentioned above as well as how to grow it. .......................Love Penny (who refuses to believe that certain herbs can ONLY be grown in a virgins footstep)
