[herbal remedies] Re: Dry Winter Skin

> Dear Laura,>> Valorie, Ian's wife here.>> Thanks for sending the recipes!>> On the dry winter skin problem, I'm trying Udo's Perfected Oil Blend. Dr. Udo Arazmas is a scientist and according to some probably the top authority and nutritionist on the planet regarding essential fatty acids and what they can do for the body. He has a book out called Fats That Heal and Fats That Kill. I've heard the book is quite techinical. I haven't read it but I have listened to 5 radio interviews he did on the Human Rights Hour hosted by Dennis Clarke and I was very impressed with everything he had to say. He says that if you have a sufficient amount of Omega 3 and Omega 6 essential fatty acids in your body, your skin will be soft. Even 80 year old people who have suffered from very dry skin reverse this condition by adding the oil to their diets. He says he takes 3 tablespoons of his oil per day in the summer and 4 tablespoons per day in the winter. According to Udo the skin is a good indication if you are getting enough of these oils in the proper balance because the skin is the first to lose nutrients due to exposure and the last to get them. This same regimen reportedly facilitates weight loss in substantial amounts for those who need to trim down without doing anything else different.>> Let me know what you try and what works.Valorie,Thanks for the info. I've heard of Dr. Udo and read some of his stuff. I have long taken flaxseed oil for omega-3's, and tried to bolster my diet with stuff that's high in the short-chain efa's, but maybe I'm just not getting enough.I do want to clarify, though, it's not *exactly* dry skin that's my problem. My skin is moist and supple, but the outer layer just doesn't want to shed properly in the winter, so my skin gets dull. Kind of like dandruff of the face, almost <ick> Maybe it's that I'm not getting enough sunshine and fresh air in the winter -- I don't know. My skin tends to grow "too fast," according to the medical community, so maybe that has something to do with it. The "too fast" comment came from my MD, after I had some surgery and he used the kind of sutures that are supposed to dissolve as your skin heals and then the knotted part on the outside falls off, only in my case my skin grew right over the knots before the sutures could dissolve and I had to do a little "home surgery" to get the @#$% things out. I don't have any kind of skin overgrowth diseases (psoriasis or anything) so I don't know if this is abnormal or not.Dr. Udo's oil is really expensive, so for now I think I'll increase the flaxseed oil and maybe have salmon more often :-)Thanks,LauraFederal Law requires that we warn you of the following: 1.
