Tramuma Oil Q

Hmmmm. Boy, I hate to argue with "The Doc" as he is my ultimate herbal hero of the 20th Century. I don't think there can be any doubt he was the 20th Century's greatest herbalist.

My comment was made from experience. Every time I put an olive oil based treatment on any of my 13 year old son's gouges, scratches, and festering wounds, they've gotten worse. I used to have athlete's foot a few years ago and when I would put an olive oil based mixture on it, it would go ballistic and totally out of control. I had better luck with TeaTree Oil based compounds as they are very antiseptic.

I never had a problem with bee's wax as it is also somewhat antibiotic in nature.

I think this needs to be researched further for the Doc was not into making light or flippant statements.

I'll look from my end and you from yours and maybe we'll solve this dilema.

Love,

Ian

Re: [herbal remedies] Tramuma Oil Q

I readily acknowledge you probably have superior knowlege on this one Ian, but it just doesn't feel right to me perhaps because I am lacking some pertinent data you could share on it. I went to Dr. Christophers 100 herb binder and looked up Olive. This is what he wrote relative to our conversation:

"It is used on skin inflammations, to protect an injured surface from air and from germs, and can be applied to any *wounds*, bruises, sores, stings, and so on."

While he does mention that it can *protect* an injured surface from air AND germs; he doesn't say it *seals* out air. I think of something far more impermeable than olive oil when I think of the word "seal", beeswax or even Vaseline comes to mind : ) It just seems that oil, a natural component of the skin would not react that way, especially if it was garlic oil. Natural oils tend to absorb their protecting layer being very light and gas permeable unless you are talking a layer 1/4" deep which is impossible to do on the skin.

I don't know if you believe in scripture for historical or other purposes but I remember the story of the Good Samaritan. There was a traveler that got beaten and robbed and left for dead, the good Samaritan poured oil and wine into his wounds. I believe there are other places in the Bible that talk about that also, but I don't know where off the top of my head. This would suggest that this was a common way to handle such things in ancient times.

I may be wrong and readily admit to no practical experience in this but, it just seems that a thin layer of olive oil would absorb, protect, work with oxygen and improve a wound not "seal" it.

What think ye?

Re: [herbal remedies] Tramuma Oil Q

The main base for Trauma Oil is Organic Olive Oil which will actually encourage an active infection as it seals out the air and thusly denies oxygen needed to heal the open wound.

I know I've heard that you don't use trauma or arnica oil on an open cut, but I don't know why. Could be not strong enough against bacteria? Does it hurt? Couldn't be worse than cayenne lol!

I would not use it on open cuts Renee, use the anti-infection formula instead. After it has healed over you can then use the trauma oil which is awesome stuff.

[herbal remedies] Tramuma Oil Q

Hi, does anyone know if you can use the trauma oil (arnica, calendula, and st. johns wort) on OPEN cuts, abrasion, lacerations, etc. or only use of closed skin wounds. Thanks,ReneeFederal Law requires that we warn you of the following: 1. This was a while ago, but I'm quite sure it was either just plain Olive Oil or most likely, the Trauma Oil (the exact formula) that caused it to go ballistic. The next day I thought I had Gangrene or Leprosy :o) I then immediately smeared it with a fresh layer of pulp from the insides of a Prickly Pear Cactus and the entire condition was gone in 8 hrs. It's been gone ever since.

You're absolutely right about the garlic and the honey as both have antibiotic properties, though I did not try either at the time.

Love,

Ian

PS. Since then, I swear by Prickly Pear for almost any skin condition. It'll handle insect bites in a nano second. If you cut it up fine, dry it and then powder it, it makes an incredible remedy for a high temperature and will bring one down almost immediately, that is if one is interested in doing so (sometimes necessary), though usually I'm trying to jack it up even higher when I'm handling a temperature. (just a little side track there)

Re: [herbal remedies] Tramuma Oil Q

That's what I was interested in Ian was personal experience. Generally speaking we don't have to treat any scrapes & cuts here as they seem to do just fine on their own. We must be pretty healthy or something : )

I definitely wouldn't use anything oily on a fungal infection either. Unlike a cut that has compromised the protective layer of the skin, a fungus like athletes foot is embedded. I wonder though if you used garlic oil you would have the same result. The oil would act to hold the garlic/anti-fungal on the athletes foot. I bet you have tried that all ready.

Garlic oil is effective on another kind of infection and that's ears. So I am not yet clear in my mind on how this all works. Another application of an oil on a wound is the wheat germ oil, comfrey, and honey application for burns. Though in both cases there is an ant-bacterial (honey or garlic).

What was in the athletes foot formula you used that caused it to go ballistic? This is good science : )
