If I should have sent these to you instead of posting on the board please

let me know.Wasn't sure where to send them.

 

Old Time Horehound Candy.

2cups of fresh stems,flowers and leaves or 1 cup dry.

2 1/2 quarts of water

3cups brown sugar ( honey doesn't work)

1/2 cup corn syrup

1 tea. cream of tartar

1 tea. butter

1 sprig of lemon balm ( 1tea. lemon juice)

 

Cover horehound with water. Bring to boil,then simmer 10 min.Strain thur

cheesecloth and let settle.Put to cup in lg. pan. Add, brown sugar,corn

syrup and cream of tartar. Boil stirring often until reaches 249 degrees add

butter.Continue to boil until reaches 300 degrees.Remove from heat and add

lemon juice.(if using lemon balm add to horehound at beginning).Pour into a

buttered 8 inch square pan.As candy cools score into squares.Remove from pan

when candy is cooled.

 

These help with a sore thoart-not so much with cough.

 

 

Herbal Syrups ( can be used with any herb to make into a sryup)

 

6 tabs. herbs

1 pint of water

4 oz. glycerin

1 oz. of any of the following

rice sryup

fruit syrup

honey

 

Bring herbs and water to boil in uncovered pan.Remove from heat.Steep 30

minutes.Strain.Return liquid to stove and simmer(just so it's warms after

cooling the 30 min.)Measure out 1 cup of the herb tea.Stir in glycerin and

sweeter while warm.Let cool.Store in frig.Can last up to 6 months.( i have

never had it longer then a couple of days with 6 in the family)
