Guest guest
Dear Herbalists, The most common GENETICALLY MODIFIED crops in U.S. foodstores are (in approximate order of % of the crop): CANOLA, SOY, COTTON, CORN, PAPAYA, RADICCHIO, TOMATO, SUGAR BEET, FLAX, POTATO, Yellow Crook-necked Squash & some cross-bred zucchini. Seek to obtain certified organic produce especially for these aforementioned crops. Note: It should also be noted that the first 4 crops mentioned above are ingredients in a vast range of products. There are thousands of field trials with other g.m. crops being conducted, but they have not yet been approved for commercialization. Please ask your local store manager to discontinue carrying genetically modified " food " . Most g.m. crops are engineered to RESIST HERBICIDES (so they can spray more -- including directly onto the plant) or to include an INSECTICIDAL BACTE RIUM in every cell of the plant (which can't be rinsed off, contaminates neighboring fields with its pollen, and kills beneficial insects like ladybugs and Monarch butterflies). Toxins concentrate as you go up the food chain. COWS often eat g.m. SOY / CORN / cottonseed, plus 34% of dairy cows are injected with recombinant Bovine Growth Hormone (resulting in more pus and infections necessitating anti-biotics), so get organic or GMO-free / no BST milk / dairy products (if any). The most toxic-laden crops are cotton, strawberries, and tobacco. The best single source on the web for info on genetic engineering in agriculture is <www.purefood.org> (you can click the Daily News link -- updated news stories are added daily). Best wishes folks !!!.............Penny Khaled (from the Organic Conumers Association Newsletter)
