LEGISLATIVE ALERT – VETO NEEDED!!!

CALL, WRITE, FAX, AND E-MAIL TODAY!!!

Dear Natural Health Advocate,

In the waning hours of the 2000 Florida Regular Legislative Session, the

legislature passed HB 591 designed to raise the penalties for the

unlicensed practice of naturopathy to a Third Degree Felony with a

Schedule 7 sentencing structure. Prior to the passage of HB 591, the

unlicensed practice of naturopathy was an unscheduled offense that

carried civil penalties. The unlicensed practice of naturopathy, if

signed by the Governor, will carry criminal penalties equal to a DUI

resulting in serious bodily injury, aggravated stalking and impregnation

of a child under 16 years of age by a person 21 years of age or older.

The practice of “naturopathy” is currently defined in Florida Statutes

as, “…the use and practice of psychological, mechanical, and material

health services to aid in purifying, cleansing, and normalizing human

tissues for the preservation or restoration of health, according to the

fundamental principles of anatomy, physiology, and applied psychology,

as may be required. Naturopathic practice employs, among other agencies,

phytotherapy, dietetics, psychotherapy, suggestotherapy, hydrotherapy,

zone therapy, biochemistry, external applications, electrotherapy,

mechanotherapy, mechanical and electrical appliances, hygiene, first

aid, sanitation and heliotherapy;…” This could cover everything from

non-diagnostic iridology to nutrition counseling.

This letter is to alert CNH members and interested parties. You can save

your practice or your future practice when you call, write, fax, and

e-mail Governor Jeb Bush and ask him to veto HB 591.

You can contact Governor Jeb Bush at the following location:

Governor Jeb Bush

The Capitol

Tallahassee, FL 32399-0001

What would happen if Governor Bush signs HB 591? The state will have

expanded police powers to prosecute individuals for the unlicensed

practice of naturopathy, or anything that the state deems is the

unlicensed practice of naturopathy. THE THREAT IS REAL!!!

Governor Bush has until May 20th, to decide on HB 591, so call, write,

fax, and e-mail today. In fact, ask your family, relatives, and friends

to do the same. The power is in the numbers, because only you can make a

difference to save the future of naturopathy and natural health in the

State of Florida. If you have any questions, please call immediately.

Sincerely,

Boyd J. Landry
