Guest guest
Ian -- I've not said anything about your FL legislation yet because I've had basically the same kind of reaction to it that I had when I got an email a few weeks ago about similar legislation that has already passed in my state putting all alternative healthcare under the regulatory auspices of the anti-alternative healthcare establishment. That is, near as I can recall that's what the email said. I was so appalled, disgusted, shocked, frightened, dismayed, depressed, and so forth that I couldn't actually focus completely on the message, and didn't even keep it. I think that reaction is usually referred to as *denial.* <g>. It's a most interesting phenomenon. As millions of Americans are flocking to alternative healthcare providers -- partly because they're disgusted with how they're treated in mainstream medicine, and even more because they're not getting BETTER with mainstream medicine -- the powers that be either do what they can to co-opt or shut down alternative medicine. I have hope, at least for the long term. I don't think it'll be possible for the AMA and pharmaceuticals to stomp out the grassroots efforts and interest on the part of the American public. In the short term, things could get hairy. One of the truly unfortunate things about state government is that its goings on are not well covered in any public news medium. Too often not covered AT ALL. There are probably hundreds of thousands of people in your state who would be very angry about this -- but they need to know about it first. Your efforts to broadcast it via the internet are a good start. Beyond that, it's my hope you'll become even more activist and work with whatever existing interested groups, healthfood store owners and employees, alternative healthcare providers, etc. you can reach. In the meantime, I most definitely share your dismay and alarm. Best, Patricia At 06:33 PM 4/20/00 -0400, you wrote: > Let me make myself perfectly clear.
