Guest guest
Greetings, I am pretty new to fasting, and I've only done it once (about a year ago for 3 days). I'm thinking about doing a 10-day water fast, and I'm wondering if I should take bentonite and psyllium husk to help absorb and move out the toxins, and maybe garlic pills to kill any parasites. I tried looking for fasts that incorporate these things (mostly the bentontite and fiber), but the only one I was able to find is by Sonne's, and it's not a true fast (you still take in nutrients-expensive ones sold by their company at that). Does anyone know of such a fast? -Perry
Guest guest
Hi Perry, You might want to check out this book: http://www.amazon.ca/Fasting-Eating-Health-Medical-Conquering/dp/031218719X He advocates a pure water fast, nothing else. I have also done 3 and 5 days water fasts. They say anything over 3 days should be doctor supervised. I have found that the Master Cleanse detoxes quite well without the need for a doctor to supervise. It is a mostly water fast with 20% fresh raw lemon-lime juice and Grade B maple syrup, plus cayenne pepper. Having done both, I can tell you the Master Cleanse is far easier because you will have all of your energy and less suffering. I am on Day 4 of the Master Cleanse right now and I love it! The Master Cleanse drink is extremely alkaline which is what our bodies need to heal. I had problems on the pure water fast probably because the distilled water is only mildly alkaline and it washed the calcium/magnesium right out of my body. I bought the book by Peter Glickman to do the Master Cleanse. Guest guest
Thanks for the response, An acquaintance told me about the Master Cleanse awhile ago, and I'm somewhat skeptical because I was told that I could drink " as much lemon and maple syrup as I needed. " Other people have told me that the benefit of a fast comes from not having to digest anything, but it seems that will not happen if I'm drinking a bunch of maple syrup. Is there some kind of limit outlined in the diet that I'm not aware of (syrup-to-bodyweight ratio, etc.)? -Thanks Perry , Shelagh Anne <vegan_animallover wrote: > > Hi Perry, > You might want to check out this book: > http://www.amazon.ca/Fasting-Eating-Health-Medical-Conquering/dp/031218719X > > He advocates a pure water fast, nothing else. Guest guest
Well I think what they meant is that you will not have to digest any solids. The maple syrup goes straight into your bloodstream, not needing to be eliminated as waste. There is no limit to how many lemonade drinks you can have each day. But I don't think you'll be able to drink more than 12. I drink 10 at the most. No ratio unless you want to lose more fat...drink less than 6-8 glasses a day and lots more water. I agree a water fast is the strongest if you can do it long enough to get good results and that should be 40 days doctor supervised according to Fuhrman's book. BUT the Master Cleanse utilizes a strong astringent (fresh raw lemons and limes -alkaline citrus) for cleansing purposes. lemon is such a strong cleanser that it is used to clean kitchens. I think it can kill parasites as well. But for definite thorough parasite killing (even blood parasites) I would use this 14 day program (I used it to kill Giardia in myself): http://drclarkia.com/store/comersus_listCategoriesAndProducts.asp?idCategory=64 Also the cayenne in the drink is a blood purifier. The maple syrup is for vitamins and minerals, energy...and alkaline! It also takes the bite off the lemons. I found that during water fasts, I strongly craved real raw vitamin C such as in citrus and fruits as though my body needed it for detoxing. So now we are on day 15 of the Master Cleanse and my only problem has been my teeth from the maple syrup sugars. Found out that I have to rinse my teeth off with water frequently. My boyfriend lost 20 lbs. in the first 10 days and is doing fine on day 15. Also the Master Cleanse includes a saltwater flush in the mornings and a laxative tea at night. The salt water flush will, I think, accomplish way more than psyllium husks. My boyfriend uses them especially since he stopped having bowel movements on his own after day 11. First time he used it, he went 6 times!! I have bowel movements unassisted each day so I have not needed to take the salt water flush or the lax tea. The Master Cleanse flushes out all the gunk in there whereas a water fast generally does not include bowel movements after the first few days. Guest guest
Hmm, I guess it couldn't hurt to give the mastercleanse a chance, how long are you supposed to do it? Guest guest
.....a minimum of 10 days for the Master Cleanse. Well if you read his book, he tells you that you could end up with an electrolyte deficiency which could lead to cardiac arrest. So a doctor would do blood and urine tests every few days or sooner if you are showing any signs of a problem. Most people are fine but some do develop problems. It's somewhat of a mystery, but last time I did a pure distilled water fast, I developed electrolyte problems by day 3! My heart started to beat wrong and my hand muscles cramped up. (I have always had delicate sodium potassium channel (systemically low sodium levels) because sometimes when I eat too many high potassium foods (such as 4 bananas), my heart will go into tachycardia). During that last fast I probably drank too much water which flushed all of my (already low) sodium out of my body, which also led to calcium deficiency (hand muscles cramping) as well. So on day 3, I rushed out to get some fresh orange juice and it instantly corrected my electrolyte problem. Your sodium - potassium balance controls your heart muscle. Potassium deficiency is what caused Terry Schaivo to go into heart failure. So I found a really good organic liquid food vitamin to take during any fast as a safety back-up. It includes all vitamins, minerals, electrolytes, and amino acids: http://www.petergillham.com/literature/pdf/OLV-trifold.pdf You can add it to the Master Cleanse or the water fast. But I can tell you the Master Cleanse supplies all the electrolytes you need so you don't need it but could add it in to be sure. I take it every other day. admiraltystudent <admiraltystudent Sent: Tuesday, January 27, 2009 11:03:12 PM Re: Bentonite and Garlic Pills?
