Congratulations on starting a fast. I wish you well with it. Try not to think too much about the sleep factor. Sometimes just the thought of not sleeping is enough to keep us awake!

Please do keep us posted on your progress.

After the 3rd day is when I usually start feeling better. I am also amazed at how much I get done when I am not eating all the time (or preparing meals). The longest I have gone is 15 days and by then I could have kept on going but stopped for no particular reason. Now I am struggling to get through day #1. My favorite juice "treat" is to juice 4 carrots and 2 apples and 1/2 lemon. I know it's a lot of sugar but compared to the Salt and Vinager chips and Dr. Pepper I used to have as a treat I don't think it's too bad. Good luck to you.

Hi Tom,It's very good to hear from you. Don't worry the first 3 days are a little tough but than things get better. When I juice fast I love carrot or beat and apple juice with brocoli. It helps to clean the intestines. I don't feel hungry during juice fasts and I swim and run without problems. I feel energetic. When water fasting it's different. I feel sleepy and tired but I know the cleaning is stronger because of the color of my urine. It's really dark.

The longst water fast I've done was 10 days and from the second day on there was no hunger pains. Really ood. But living in a house with husband and 2 girls eating all the time it's really dificult to fast. They seemed very bothered and worried by my not eating. Like you said, my folks do this. but it's OK. They are just worried and they care about us, despite thinking we're crazy for doing this.

Wish you luck.-- Élia Regina Curitiba PrBrazil

Thank you to all who responded. I new to this so it's

kind of dramatic!

I'll be ending the fast today at 3 and then doing it

again next month.

i think i've been going thru coffee withdrawal. last

time i did that, my whole body was aching.

anyway, do you all post to other sites or forums about

fasting?,

Can anyone tell me if fasting helps adrenal exhaustion. I've got some

type of chronic fatigue disorder which I now know is due to exhaused

adrenals (confirmed by tests). I started on bovine adrenal cortex which

was wonderful. I felt almost normal, but now realize it is givning me

gastritis - with bloody mucus in the feces. I cried and cried and cried

all day. I thought the cortex would eventually make me well, and now I

feel I have little hope. Any help would be apprecited.

I have read that people that have adrenal exhaustion should definetely not fast. If I had any suggestion it would be to try to minimize stress, and find some teas soothing for adrenals. Tulsi is a good one that comes to mind. A wonderful herb to take for it is Rhodiola, and adaptogen that is an amazing herb. Good luck!

Hi Helen

I believe that fasting is one of the most natural, healthy things we can do for ourselves, but I know there are also times when fasting isn't recommended. I don't know a lot about adrenal exhaustion, but I do know that fasting is a detox that can take a lot of energy, depending on how it is done. So I'm just thinking that maybe it's not the best idea when energy levels are already low. This is just my gut reaction - I have no medical background and am not familiar with what you're going through.

I did find this article that you might find helpful. It is about adrenal fatigue and exhaustion. There is brief mention of fasting in the article, too:

I hope that is of some help,

Rachel

Hi Helen,

i can't either with authority on adrenals, but some of

the Kundalini Yoga i do supposedly addresses glands.

Particularly Breath of Fire, alone and in conjunction

with certain poses performs a glandular tune-up. i

practice this at home with DVD's. hope that helps.

I was just told the same thing...not to fast for adrenal exhaustion. I wasn't aware of that.

I would think it is because fasting cleanses the body of toxins and that process takes energy. So if there is already an existing state of exhaustion of any kind, fasting would probably be too taxing on the body.
