Guest guest
Hi Fasters, I've been reading up about fasting now for a few weeks and think that I am mentally prepared for my firstfast. I just need some pointers on how to really prepare for the first day and how I need to alter my daily routine. I work part time and am a single mom. I am really exited and motivated to do this. Any tips I recieve will be welcomed! Thanks a bunch!
Guest guest
Hi Fasting is such an individual thing. Each person prepares for it and responds to it in his or her own way. What kind of pointers are you looking for? Can you tell us something about your daily routine and what it is that you think you might need to alter? What type of fast are you doing and how long will it be? If you can elaborate a bit more, it would be easier for people to offer suggestions. It would also be helpful to have your name so people can address you personally. Guest guest
My name is Caroline, I want to do a water fast for seven days. My routine isn't very crazy. I'm home all morning until 12:30pm and work at a hospital from 1-5 pm. Also my main questions are: Is this type of fast is feasable for a beginner? Does the type of water matter? ( different sites say different things) If I were to alternate juice what veggies/fruits are the best to use? Thanks for the help! Guest guest
Hey Caroline, I'm new to this group, but not new to fasting. I can answer your questions. > Is this type of fast is feasable for a beginner? Yes, but be aware that water fasting is hard. You will get all kinds of cravings, or what I call " appetites, " as soon as your body realizes it isn't getting what it is used to. That can make going to work hard. On the other hand, having something like work to distract yourself or " keep yourself busy " can be a plus. It is up to you and your attitude really. But isn't that true with everything? I think of fasting as the ultimate game against yourself. It helps me to think of it that way, especially when those appetites start coming after you. > Does the type of water matter? ( different sites say different things) > If I were to alternate juice what veggies/fruits are the best to use? Yes, the type of water matters. The purists say drink only distilled water, which is the purest form of drinkable H2O you are gonna find. It is essentially " rain water, " minus all the dust and industrial gases the raindrops pick up falling from the clouds. I've fasted as long as 30 days on Brita water and have felt fine. If you are only doing a week or so... regular water will probably be okay. The worst that will happen is that the chlorine in tap water will give you a minor belly ache. I did this after working out at the gyy while fasting once and I got a nasty rumbling and the runs. (Ahhh... the reality of fasting) If you use juice, that's not fasting to me. The bio-chemical differences between water and juice fasting make them two different processes in my opinion. You will be going in and out of ketosis with juice fasting and you will be using your digestive system the whole time. Your blood sugar will also be spiking everytime you drink your juice, while it stablizes with water fasting. I'm not saying that juice fasting is not a great thing... I'm just saying it is not the same as fasting. For more info on this, read Dr. Fuhrman's book on fasting. It is GREAT and really the only modern resource on water fasting and its physiology. (There are many more resources, but without a university journal library like the LSM at Rutgers, you will have a hard time finding professional, scientific info.) > Thanks for the help! > > Caroline No problem! I got a lot of help while learning to fast and I love passing on what I've learned. I will only pass on info that I've either experienced myself or have read in scientific journals. I recommend every faster get a copy of Fuhrman's book though. You don't have to buy it new... get it used. It is worth its weight in gold.
