Guest guest
Robert, Just to make sure we're clear, I think it's a safe assumption that anyone who attempts a fast, having never done any colon cleansing before, has an intestinal situation like most everyone else. Their intestines probably contain anywhere from 5 to 30 pounds of solid material that's become caked on the intestinal walls for who knows how long. That's always been the premise of most colon cleansing books I've read. This caked material probably contains toxins, parasites, etc that not only blocks nutrients from being absorbed through the intestinal walls, but the toxins themselves may eventually leak through the walls. A double whammy, so to speak. The intestines and body fat are probably the two greatest locations in the body for toxins. So if a faster, as what happened to me, does a water only fast, for 10+ days say, and doesn't have a BM for the entire time, it must be because that fecal matter is still in there. The fasting hasn't removed it. Right? If so, it becomes mandatory, in my opinion, to do a colon cleanse, ala Burroughs or Schulze, before doing a water only fast. Right? So I wouldn't say there's no need for bowel movements during a fast, but rather the cleansing ideally should've preceded the fast, and then the fast would be all the more effective, with the toxins in the GI track eliminated beforehand. Right? I now realize this was another one of the mistakes I made when I did my first 15 day water only fast. I've never seen that mentioned in any of the fasting books I've read?? Interesting that you now mention food combining, because that's the next topic I was going to bring up for discussion. There seems to be a lot of books about acid/alkaline, pH, food combining, etc coming out. I first read about food combining in FIT FOR LIFE written years ago. But I don't recall that book making the connection between food combining and body pH. It just listed what foods should be eaten separately, what foods could be combined, and what foods shouldn't be combined. The acid/alkaline books came along later and clarified the food combining rules. I think the most popular of the recent books has been THE PH MIRACLE, by the Young's. But I also like the book ALKALIZE OR DIE, by Dr Theodore A Baroody. The Baroody book contains a really nifty table on pp 81-82 of the paperback edition. It gives a clear picture of various food combinations as to whether the combinations are: Extremely Acid-Forming, Moderately Acid-Forming, Slightly Acid-Forming, or Extremely, Moderately, or Slightly Alkaline-Forming. This chart clears up the recommendations for not eating fruits with anything else (in addition to eating only fruits until noon to extend the "BREAK fast"). Also certain fruits shouldn't be eaten together, melons shouldn't be combined with anything else, the cherished combination of meat and potatoes is among the extremely acid-forming, as is meat and fruit (another slice of glazed ham anyone?), also vegetables and fruits are always acid-forming, even though I see a lot of smoothie and green drink recipes that do combine fruits and vegetables. I'm probably behind the curve on this topic, compared to others already juicing and blending. I did order a "hot shot juicer" from a TV infomercial over the week end however. But I do try to follow proper food combining, as I understand it. I hope this new subject generates a lot of informed conversation. Frank Hello Frank, Likewise I do not think colon cleaning has any value during a water fast. On my extended water fast, a few times I had a liquid elimination. I assumed that was my getting rid of toxins. When the body loses fat, it is losing water. Therefore there is no need for a bowel movements. When fasting guru's have opposite opinions who is correct? We have to use our judgment. People want to have a plan laid out for them, but I find I usually have to run it through my logic box and make some decisions. I could tell a level of detoxing was taking place. I read some people are toxic and my take several years to detox. I will be doing a 30 day water fast in July and January. Eat to live presents the idea of eating fruit until noon. That extends the nightly fast and gives the body extra hours daily to detox. He also says fruit and acid foods should not be combined during a meal, because each one needs different body acids to digest. Improper food combining is what creates a billion dollar anti acid industry. -- Best regards, Robert Ratliff in La Chorrera De Panama robert dot ratliff at cwpanama dot net Tuesday, May 16, 2006, 10:12:51 AM, you wrote: New Messenger with Voice.
