Guest guest
Hi All, I am cautiously celebrating my first fast. I fasted for 21 hours yesterday! *big grin* I was going for 24 but derailed myself by not letting my partner know I was fasting until late in the day. She is supportive but wasn't prepared. I guess I didn't tell her because I wasn't convinced I could really do it. But I am very pleased with what I accomplished and have learned lots from the experience. I think I will go for 36 hours next time, which could be very soon. I have a question though, has anyone detoxed from anti-depressants? I went off them gradually over a month ago in preparation for fasting but still felt some effects from them during my fast. I am a little concerned about what it could be like if I fast for longer than a day as I won't be consuming the Omega Oils I have been taking to counteract the side effects. Thanks for listening, Joanna
Guest guest
Welcome Joanna, I am not truly an experienced faster. The longest fast that I have done so far has been 70 hours. I haven't pushed further than that since it has been winter. I plan on doing a 21 day fast this spring. I have been trying to eat better in the overall. I have been looking into drinking green smoothies to try to help get more fiber and greens into my diet and help to detox me some more. My wife about freaked out when I first told her that I was looking into fasting. She was afraid that I was going to become anorexic or bulimic. My family has a history of high blood pressure, diabetes, and most recently heart issues. Mom had a mild heart attack several years ago and Dad had 5 heart bypasses just last year. So you understand that I need to get healthier, I have mild high blood pressure. Fasting just a couple of days a week has helped me a lot. I have never taken anti-depressants. I can imagine that the detox will take a while. I would suggest lots of raw foods in the diet now to aid in detox and do that for a while. The fasts should only be short to begin with so the detox won't become too intense. The fats in your body will have a lot of antidepressant residue in it so perhaps a slow detox will help with that. I would think that you wouldn't want to fast for any more than 5 days or perhaps even 3 unless you had the supervisor of a practitioner due to what drugs you have taken. This is a pretty supportive group. They share a lot of information. Welcome to the group, faststart164 , " detagged " <jokitt wrote: > > Hi All, > I am cautiously celebrating my first fast. Fasting may not always be pleasant for drug takers or smokers but is even more necessary. Fasting and raw foods at least 50% post fast and fewer processed meals, and sodas may mean you'll get to the point you'll never need them again. Heres a healing story from someone whos actually been there and the link to read more from healthful living international. YOU won't be healed by fasting, only the body can heal body and mind, but it is a one two combination with better nutrition, sunshine, fasting etc. I knew others thatgot off this kind of drug, but of course since I'm not a health professional you'll have to make your own decisions. One antidepressant is possibly causing very serious problems when people leave them. They are going to mess with the biochemistry of your mind. Its going to take regular or longer fasts to work the changes back, its not an instant take one and everythings perfect solution. One change you can make if you're not into fasting much yet is to at least get off monsodium glutamate, fast foods, and diet pops with aspartame- MSG is even is cans of Campbell Soup. Good luck and best wishes. My Healing Story Twelve years ago my health was severely undermined by a major clinical depression following traumatic events in my life. After 6 months of suffering in the pit of depression which included two suicide attempts, I decided to take responsibility for my condition, reclaim my personal power and get well again. I ceased taking the anti-depressant and anti-anxiety drugs that had been prescribed for me, ceased eating cooked and junk foods, ceased seeing the psychiatrist and went to a Natural Hygiene health centre. I was put on a supervised fast for rest and healing. During the 2 weeks of fasting, my natural sleep patterns were restored and the biochemistry of depression completely dissolved. To wake up refreshed, experiencing spontaneous joy in living again, after months of feeling that life was worthless and suicide a solution, felt miraculous. During the fast a urine infection and gastro-intestinal problems also healed. This was the first, deeply convincing evidence to me that my body truly is self-healing and only needed the support of fresh air, sunshine, rest, water, congenial environment and the guidance of health-aware practitioners, for major healing to be successful. Since applying the Natural Hygiene principles of healthful living, my health has continued to spiral upwards. I have never been devitalised by depression or any other chronic disease again. I now work as a professional counselor assisting other people to get free of depression and other health problems. My experience has taught me that eating living raw foods and embracing the other principles of healthful living, is the best, most effective, least expensive and most joyous anti-depressant there is. http://www.healthfullivingintl.org/bios/dclarebio.html Mike
