Hi Jann, I drink diet drinks, clear soup, coffee. I am

on day 6 now. It is hard to believe. I felt like

breaking it today. I know those drinks are hard on me

but I feel that is what I can do today. I am not

willing to give up everything. Maybe I should. But I

am afraid. I am getting many pimples and I am assuming

that is the detoxing.

One of the ways the body gets rid of toxins is

through the skin. So first things can get worse, Ie

nausea, acne, etc before things will get better.

Diet drinks contain aspartame which is quite bad,Try

and get away from the caffinated ones at least.

Coffee eats away at an empty stomach lining and soup

I hope is homemade and not containing monosodium glutamate

which is also not good for us. May I suggest if fear

is a factor do a shorter fast first and try and go without

the items you know are bad for you.A day or two without

what you're eating and drinking may be better then 6 with.

It might make your

fast go easier and your mind and mood better.

Not that I think you are in any danger but it is like you're

driving a car with your foot on the gas and the brake at the

same time. You are trying to detox while not giving your body

a total rest to heal itself INHO>

Here are some common side effects from detoxing that often occur

during the first few days...

 

headache

sore muscles

feeling weakness

inability to sleep soundly

cranky moods

Those don't sound too cool, do they?

 

Well, that's the price you have to pay to rejuvenate, and, as far as

I'm concerned, it's a small price indeed.

 

Happily, there are also some positive side effects you'll experience

after your first few days on a detox program...

 

dramatically improved energy

improved clarity of thought

desire to exercise and move around

optimistic attitude about life in general

improved sleep

Judy, yes - know how difficult it can be to give up

everything. Yesterday in addition to my morning raw

green vitamin and mineral drink I had a veggie juice

and some herbal tea without any sweetner.

 

The hunger pangs have diminished, but I have a detox

headache, but it is manageable. This to shall pass. I

have lost 4.2 lbs in 2 days.

 

Have a great day and keep the reason you are fasting

in sight - it helps keep us on track psychologically.

how on earth do you guys and gals do it! I've been trying to go on a long fast for so long now, and every-time i start its this voice in my head that says ," just one more day, than you'll start! really!" And if its not that, the stresses of life seem to almost prevent me from any long term fasting. When i get sad i eat to feel better, when I'm really happy i eat to ... well i don't' know i guess because , i have it that eating goes with happiness. I have a food addiction. I eat when I am happy like

you, when I am sad, when it is raining outside or

because it is not. I am addicted to carbs and also to

certain eating behaviors and thoughts. Sometimes it is

easier to not eat than to deal with eating healthy. I

talked to my sponsor this morning and she said I was

doing it for control and to call someone else for

another insight so I did. That person said if I was

doing it for spiritual reasons then I would be in the

Word and Prayer throughout and it wasn't about food at

all. Well, I was doing it for breaking the cycle of

food addiction and getting control out of it too, but

alluding to the socially acceptable spiritual reasons.

So I don't know. I am back at square one so it seems.

I wish I could stop eating forever. Just take a pill

for my dietary needs and be done with it.

Wow, its sadly a relife to hear someone else who seems to know the storm of food addiction. I feel like theres hope to overcome this addiction and I will/we will beat it! I agree that i should maybe lean more on my scriptures and things like that. Will see !..... Thanks and B encouraged! Fasting will get you away from your addictions and give

you a chance to give them up. Back in the year I started I stopped

a 5 cup of coffee a day and several colas a day, fast food meals

and eventually gave up milk and most cheese as it was mucus forming.

I did small fasts of 24-36 hours first then 3 days then eventually

I could do more. But I started off small at 6pm in the evening.

Sleeping overnight I had 12 hours in, then I could make it to noon

and finally to 6pm for 24 hours etc.With the benefits from my smaller

fasts and cutting back on what I was hooked on ( I know I can't have

any cookies or crackers in the house for I will gobble them. ) Going

to more raw fruits and vegetables help cut the cravings for other

foods. When I could see what was possible it gave me more willpower

to do an eventual 16 day fast. I think my photos are in this

group too click on photos and see where I've gotten to from 1995

to this year after life in an obese family that had diabetes, heart

disease rectal cancer and glacoma. Less then 20 per cent keep off a

major weight

loss of 20 lbs or more for two years. I have. I've slipped at

times with 5-10 lbs but always got back to it. Good luck hope

it helps. You gotawanta real bad.- to have the motivation to

walk away from what will lead a person to ill health, disease

or distruction.

But I've been there- the pictures show it, I didn't

want to put my mug all over the internet but did it to

back up what I say. Theres actually a picture of me somewhere

I can't find

with a basketball sized gut playing the fiddle back in 98

looking grim.

You CAN do it. Even small changes and small fasts and some

better food choices can make a difference. An apple instead

of the bag of fritos, whole wheat bread without butter etc.

Pray and then take action. Your actions show you took your

prayers seriously. God will not do this for us. He did

however make REAL food.
