Guest guest
hello, I'm working with a group of peace activists preparing to go on a 30 day fast in Washington, D.C. to protest the war in Iraq. http://vcnv.org/the-winter-of-our-discontent-february-15-to-march-19-2006 We'll be doing a water-only or juice fast (people will choose which one). I've been looking around on the web for health-related information (what kinds of juices, how to break the fast, etc.) and was hoping you might be able to point me to some information you find helpful. Any general-interest websites on the subject you typically recommend would be appreciated. Also, I have some particular questions re: the water-only fast I hope you can answer: a.. Is spring water or distilled water better or does it matter? b.. What about electrolyte supplements? The only kind I'm familiar with (I think it's called " Emergen-C " ) has a mixture of electrolytes and vitamin c, but it also contains sorbitol as a sweetner and I'm wondering about that over a 30-day fast? c.. One site, from a Dr. Haas in California, recommended a mixture of maple syrup, fresh lemon juice and cayenne pepper in water. What do you think of that? Thank you very much for your help. Guest guest
Here is one set of instruction, but I would do juice only the first day then the rest as follows. After the fast – day 1 On the first day after the fast, you will want to have one or two fruits. Non citrus fruits are best, such as peaches, kiwi, bananas. Have one of each throughout the day. Eat no more than three fruit for the first day. You can eat a small salad (steamed or raw) for lunch and dinner as well. You should not eat dressing with the salads at this time. After the fast – day 2 You can have some vegetables like potatoes, yam, cereals, grains and seeds. Eat foods Page 22 Lose weight the natural way with Fasting from day 1 as well. Keep it in moderation. Eat small amounts. Your stomach will have shrunk from its pre-fast size. After the fast – day 3 You can try to add some beans, peas and add a little oil back into the diet. Be careful with the beans since they can promote gas. After the fast – day 4 If you were eating meat before, try to eat less. Do not fry it, or cook it in lots of oil. Try to steam, bake or boil it. This means for now you should stick to fish or poultry since these are the most easily steamed or boiled meats. If you eat out, ask for food without salt of other heavy seasonings added. Use only olive, canola or other “good” oils.
