Hello, yesterday I ordered the book juice fasting, should be recieving

it in two weeks. In the meantime I plan to " gear down " from solid food

like I´ve been adviced so that the toxic shock won´t overwhelm me, I

expect those cigarettes of past and coffee to come haunting me.

Can you give advice on how to best use those two weeks to best prepare

myself?

I also have a few other questions:

I read somewhere that centrefuge juicer were not recomended because

they seperate mineral from the juice, is this really an issue?

Are enemas a must or is it safe to use only herbal laxative?

One source say´s you should not fast during winter, is this a concern?

I attend university and hold a part time job at a library, will I be

able to cope energy wize if I fast for 20 days plus?

Finally to motivate me, can you tell me someting great about the

benefits of fasting from own experience?

I can ancwer your winter fasting question. some people like myself who are thin already, cant fast because the body gets a little cold during a fast so someone like me gets really cold during the winter. I tried it once and I was to to cold. Those who are a heavier weight shoud have no problemb. Or if one is thin and can stay warm go for it . I just dont like it. Some people fast as the seasons change . one fast for winter spring fall and summer without fail. find what works for you. there are so so many opinions out there ... Jennie

Thanks Jennie, much appreciated. I´m rather heavy set and my body

temperature is rather high, there are many who find I´m warm to the

touch, like my body thermos is set at mabe half or one degree above

others, so that should not be a problem. One less thing to worry

about, thanks.

Like I said before I´m recieving the book on Juice fasting in a

little under two weeks now and I´m thinking about how to best

prepare myself before I start fasting. My general plan now is to

start taking herbal colon cleanser and eat as strict vegitarian diet

as I can untill I start fasting. Bananas, apples and the vegetables

recomended for my bloodtype as listed in the book on that subject.

Am I overlooking something, any suggestions?

Best regards, Thor

Hey Thor,

I have not been into fasting that long (only about 4 months now). The

longest fast that I have done to date was a 70 hour fast (I completed

this last Friday). My wife is afraid that I will become

anorexic/bulemic (a load of hog wash) but I plan on doing at least a

21 day fast in the spring.

I was pretty heavy set when I started to do periodic short fasts and

drinking mostly water. I used to work in frozen foods in a grocery

store for 2 1/2 to 3 years and it worked well for me as I had a higher

than normal body temperature (I only wore a jacket when most wore

coats and never did I wear gloves).

I don't consider myself fat now (medically I still would be) but I am

far from skinny. I will have to respectful disagree with Jennie

though.....

Since I have started doing fasting I have found that I get colder

easier and usually try not to do my mini-fasts when I know the

temperatures are going to be really cold. If you do decide to fast

when it is cold I would advise to have a coat (or a light jacket for

inside) nearby so you can put it on if you start feeling cold so you

can get warmer.

I am far from an expert and it seems that different people react in

different ways. You might not be affected by it but I just wanted you

to be more prepared than I was (I congratulate you for thinking ahead).

Hi Thor

Regarding preparing for the fast, people approach it differently.

Some take great effort to eliminate certain things prior to the fast

and others just jump right into it. I've generally taken the latter

approach and have never had a problem. Cutting down on caffeine is

usually helpful for avoiding the caffeine withdrawal headache. Same

with sugar. It's a very individual thing, though.

One recommendation I do have, though, has nothing to do with

changing your eating habits. :) During the time before your fast,

I would highly recommend writing down the reasons why you want to do

the fast. What are your goals? What is your motivation? Write it

down on a 3x5 card or something that will fit in your pocket or

wallet and keep it with you during the fast. In my experience,

there generally comes a time when I want to break the fast for the

wrong reasons and in those times I need to be reminded of why I was

so enthusiastic about starting it in the first place. Having it

written down where you can just read it to remind yourself....that

can be one of the most helpful fasting tools you could have. :)

Enemas can be beneficial, but they are not a must.

As for fasting during winter, it is only a concern because people

sometimes feel cold during a fast and so for that reason they choose

to fast during warmer temperatures. There is nothing harmful,

though, about fasting during cold weather. Just dress warm and

drink warm water.

I hope that helps.

Thanks to those who took the time to answer. I´m still thinking about

fasting but cracks are forming in my resolve. There is so much

conflicting oppinions online on whether fasting is healty or not. Some

argue that it is not good for you and unnatural, that the apparent

toxins one excreates are just undigested food from the upper parts of

the digestive system that would smell and look just as bad no matter

what.

What I really nead is assurance from somebody who has fasted

(preferably juice fasting since that is what I´m going for) that it is

really a good thing for ones health. What I hope to get out of fasting

is to become more vibrant and energetic, as due to detoxificaton like

the litterature teaches. So is it hype or is it true?

fasting when done properly is good. its been going on for thousands of years. its also mentioned in the bible 73 times. There are alot of books that will tell you why it is good and what exactly is going on in your boday during a fast. Fear is the biggest detrament to a fast.In history people who thought they were starving died within 10 days but people who fasted with knowledge and assurance lasted much longer.

There is all kinds of misinformation of all subjects on the internet. I'd suggest reading books the others in this forum recommend. Most of the books out there are written by people that have first hand witnessed accounts from thousands of people healing themselves from fasting. Honestly why would the body as resliant and adaptive it is allow itself to inflict damage by something as small as abstaining from solid food for awhile? It can adapt enough to take in 10 bags of cheetos in a day, it seems to me digesting only water or liquid food is much more natural. I believe that nature and experience is the best teacher, even animals fast naturally when ill.
