Guest guest
Hey guys, I was wanting to get everyone's opinion of wheatgrass juice. I am reading a book by the Sproutman and he was raving about it. I am thinking about looking at getting some wheatgrass inside starter kit to grow it myself. Most things that I have looked at that actually say they can juice wheatgrass are pretty much only for juicing grasses. Are regular juicers able to juice wheatgrass or not? Thanks in advance for the info, faststart
Guest guest
To me wheatgrass isn't worth the time or the effort. There are only a couple of juicers that will do wheatgrass or any sort of leafy green. The Green Star or Green Power and the Oscar are the two that come to mind. Juiceman, Jack LaLane, Omega, those types will not do wheatgrass or kale for that matter. Just my opinion. When I want w.g. I go to the co-op for a shot or two. Guest guest
There are some really expensive power juicers that can do both, or if you want to start out inexpensively I really like my Back 2 Basics brand manual crank wheat grass juicer. wheatgrasskits.com has some pretty good deals. "Wheatgrass Natures Finest Medicine" by steve meterowitz is a good book on the subject as well. He's an experienced sports nutrionist whos opinion I quite respect Reply to: wheatgrass posted by tori on September 18, 2005 at 8:13 am: Here are a collection of Dr. D's posts on Wheatgrass: Wheatgrass offers nothing that is not in the soil. It offers nothing of importance that is not in lettuces, celery, and other greens. In fact, all of the greens carry, basically, all of the nutrients, just in different proportions. There is nothing special about wheat grass other than the fact that it will make you sick if you attempt to eat it. Dr D Q. Why is wheatgrass juice toxic? A. The response from most people is not one of health. Too high a percentage of the responses include: vomiting, nausea, stomach upset, irritation, stimulation, shakey feelings, etc, all key indicators of something toxic. I'll go out on a limb here, but, to my knowledge, humans have no known need for chlorophyll. That said, let's remember that whole foods are a cornerstone of healthy eating. Hence, the juice of the grass of the wheat is not superfood, it is at best no better than the juice of any other vegetable. Personally I recommend the use of whole foods over juices. It is my opinion that foods that cannot be eaten in their whole raw state are not actually fit foods for human consumption. Dr. Doug I am aware of and ascribe no therapeutic or health benefits to the consumption of wheat grass, its juice, or the juice of any grass for that matter. Personally, I think it is a gimmick. Let's stop looking for cures and start living in a way that results in health. Dr. Doug I recommend the use of whole foods over juices. Eat wheat grass and you will get sick. I see no benefit in the use of wheat grass when comparing it to the use of tender greens such as lettuces, celery, etc, hence I do not recommend its use.
