Guest guest
There are some who would be benefited more by abstinence from food for a day or two every week then by any amount of treatment or medical advice . To fast one day a week would be of incalculable benefit to them . Ellen White founder of Seventh Day Adventism 1864 Experience has shown that most people profit from a weekly 36 hour fast. After a few experiences of this very brief fasting period, most people fine the weekly 36 hour fast convenient, agreeable, restful and beneficial- and they experience no debilitating aftereffects Hannah Allen 1978 Man lives on one fourth of what he eats. Relax with your eyes closed, or read inspiring articles and books and take a leisurely sn bath. By the cessation of most activities, in addtion to the physiological rest secured from abstaning from food, you will obtain restoration of health. Fasting one day a week gives most people physical and mental stamina to live properly all week long Dr Virginia Vetrano 1988 Dine with little, sup with less; do better still sleep supperless Ben Franklin When you are on a fast of 3 days or more, you are really on Mother Natures's and Gods miracle operating table. Nature is ridding you of the waste, mucus, toxins and other foreign substances in your body Paul Bragg Moreover when ye fast, be not of sad countenance, that thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father, which is in secret and thy Father shall reward thee openly Matthew 6 The Bible To lengthen thy life, lessen thy meals Ben Franklin Abstain from food and drink, from sunrise to sundown, and beware lest desire deprive you of this grace that is appointed in the Book. [Kitáb-i-Aqdas, ¶17] Bahai scripture Fasting is an institution as old as Adam. It has been resorted to for self-purification or for some ends, noble as well as ignoble Gandhi When the stomach is full, it is easy to talk of fasting. Fasting Jerome, St. c342-420 Croatian Christian Ascetic Scholar OF ABSTINENCE: A man while fasting must abstain from all bad expressions and must not even resent an injury. Author : Prophet Muhammad Islam Quote 13: " Just try to explain to someone what the art of fasting is. No one who does not feel it can be made to grasp what it means. The beautiful placards became dirty and illegible, they were ripped down, no one thought of replacing them; the little board showing the tally of days fasted, which at first had been scrupulously changed each day, had now long stayed unaltered, for after the first few weeks the staff had grown weary of even this little task; and so the fasting-artist did indeed go fasting on, as he had once dreamed of doing, but no one counted the days, no one, not even the fasting-artist himself, knew how great his achievement was, and his hearty grew heavy. And once in a while some casual passer-by should stop, ridicule the outdated number of the board and talk about fraudulence, that in its way the stupidest lie that ever indifference and inborn malice could invent, for it was not the fasting-artist who was cheating, he was working honestly, but the world was cheating him out of his reward. " A Fasting-artist, pp. 199-200 Franz Kafka It is possible to break a fast with any food available. Either whole fruits or whole vegetables may be used. In order not to overconsume food, we have found it advisable to weigh the food for the first few days. Dr. Virginia Vetrano, who has been my able associate for a number of years, has been breaking fasts on whole foods for several years and finds that in most cases it is far superior to breaking the fast on juices, as was formerly advised. She reasoned that animals in the wild have no juicers or blenders and therefore have to break their fasts naturally on whole foods. Why should man be an exception? Using her knowledge of physiology, she further reasoned that the bulk in the food is necessary to promote both peristalsis and mixing contractions in the stomach and intestines. Bulk is also necessary to promote secretion of the digestive juices of the stomach and intestines. The bulk of the food touching the stomach and intestinal walls is the stimulus for muscular contraction as well as for proper digestive secretions. Because of this, solid food is digested and handled more efficiently than juices. It is held in the stomach and intestines long enough for proper digestion and absorption, whereas juices, lacking this bulk, are hurried along the digestive tract. Lacking in bulk, juices do not occasion strong peristaltic waves and do not elicit the gastrocolic reflex as strongly as slid foods. Because of these facts, when the fast is broken on juices the first bowel movement after a fast is delayed. When solid foods are used to break the fast, bowel movements are re-established much earlier. Dr Herbert Shelton from Fasting Can Save your life fasted over 50,000 patients " Your mind, your thinking, your ideals, your aspirations and your philosophy changes fundamentally in such a way as to beggar description " . " Your soul will shout for joy and triumph over all misery of life, leaving it all behind you. For the first time you will feel a vibration of vitality through your body (like a slight electric current) that shakes you delightfully " . " You will learn and realize that fasting and superior fasting (and not volumes of psychology and philosophy) is the real and only key to a superior life; to the revelation of a superior world, and to the spiritual world " .
