Guest guest
Hello all-! I just joined the group right now. I've done a couple fasts in the past year, started with 3-day, then 5-day, then 10-day, and I just started a 14-day fast. I've been on the Primal Diet for about 8 months (for those that don't know, it is a 100% raw diet), and due to the amazing influx of nutrients during this time my body has become somewhat invulnerable to hunger. In fact, I view eating as somewhat of a hassle now! But anyways, I had a quick question that might seem stupid to some of you. I know that fasting is beneficial because it is supposed to relieve you of your digestive burden. Therefore, does anybody know whether or not the type of water you drink during a fast matters? I am currently drinking Evian, which has some minerals. Do the trace amounts of minerals in some waters stop it from being a " pure fast " ? And if so, is it recommended to drink a purified water that has absolutely nothing in it? Perhaps I just sound paranoid and silly to some of you, but if anyone knows about this, any input would be appreciated! John
Guest guest
Greetings John, Welcome to the group! I will typically buy a 5 gallon bottle of distilled water to fast on. Dr. Joel Fuhrman, who wrote "Fasting and Eating for Health" is an M.D. who supervises fasts as a part of his medical practice. He is partial to water fasting and says, "I utilize distilled spring water because it is the purest water I can purchase and is totally free of chlorine." (Page 218) I wouldn't think there would be anything inherently wrong with fasting on Evian or other mineral water as humankind has fasted on such waters for thousands of years. I will sometimes use spring water to fast on...but I generally will use distilled...and by the way this question concerning water is certainly not a stupid or insignificant one. Healthy Regards, Tim ps, There are several of us in this group who think Dr. Fuhrman's book is one of the better ones currently out there on fasting. It is now in print so any bookstore should be able to order it for you. i_am_magico <i_am_magico wrote: Hello all-!I just joined the group right now. Guest guest
All I know is that tap water gives me a terrable rash and I havent drank it in 20 + years. Many different sources say many different things. I just drink any old bottled water. I personally wouldent worry about mineral water its still a liquid. Some of my fasts have been a combination of waters I would drink whats available where I am of course except tap. If i was at the store I might grab an Evion. or I might buy a giant poland spring for the house. I might have another bottled water if im at someones house. ect.... some sourses say only distilled water is good. I believe what ever water you choose you will benifit greatly from your fast.....
