Guest guest
I was wondering if anyone could give some suggestions for cold & cough remedies for my 5 year old daughter. She had strep throat a month or so ago, and since that time (actually before) has had a junky chest cough. No fever and not much in her head until recently. Now it's starting to get into her nose (sneezing, congestion, green mucous) and I'm worried she's going to get an infection (or already has one). I've been giving her all supplement/homeopathic remedies...first Sinupret, but then switched to Chestal since it was mostly in her chest. I tried to give her some ColdCalm tablets today, which are supposed to help with the upper respiratory/cold symptoms, but she complained that they took too long to dissolve & spit them out. She does take 2,000 IU of vitamin D per day, and I've been trying to get some vitamin C in her (powdered kind that you mix with drinks, since that's what I have at home), but it's difficult to get her to finish a whole glass. Any suggestions on what I can get a strong-willed 5 year old to take to help relieve these symptoms before she ends up on an antibiotic again?? Thanks, Ashley
Guest guest
This may not be good advice but when I get those symptoms I ply myself with orange juice. I know the acid and sugar are not good but I think the excess vitamin c helps. I do this with my son too. And also, avoidance of milk products except for yogurt. Bacteria, good and bad, is not just in the bowel. Probiotics will help fight any infection in the sinuses. I hope others have suggestions as well. I don't have the name of a good supplement, sorry. I eat Activia and Dannon yogurts and as I said, I consume a lot of orange juice when I get sick. Kel
Guest guest
That's fine provided it is fresh orange juice and not the common commercial "from concentrate" stuff. This has been dried out and reduced to dust before it is re-constituted with water, flavours, colours, artificial vitamins, etc. Be sure to look for "not from concentrate" on the label or better still why not simply eat fresh oranges, save yourself all the hastle and get the maximum live goodness.
