Guest guest
Hello and thanks for the Welcome I am Dana, up in Canada, just starting to feel spring in all her glory. I am mom to Cory and Maya, wife to Pete. I am in the midst of yet another wonderful branch of our journey, which is juicing and mostly raw food. I have been slowly coming up this path, but too slowly. My family has been vegetarian for years, but my health continued to deteriorate and on the verge of diabetes, we all took a great leap of faith. While I cook some of grains or soups for my daughter, I eat raw all week and eat a " nutritious " cooked meal on the weekend, while avoiding sugar, as it would trigger too many cravings. I have lost 34 pounds in just over a month and do attest to the post I read about juicing. The energy is boundless, especially for 2-3 hours after drinking the juice. We usually have juice for breakfast, a good fruit mix. I like veggie juice, but am still trying to acquire a taste for the greens. I am a big fan of sprouting, composting, homemade things; I will always try to make my own item or find a used one before I buy. I make my own sprouters from water bottles. I have done pretty well with sprouts, but my wish is to develop my green thumb, I would settle for a shade of khaki !!!! I am really enthused by what I have read so far and am eager to learn form more simple lifers out there. ~ This is my new favorite day ! ~
Guest guest
Hi Dana! Thanks so much for introducing yourself. I'm not sure how many Canadian members we have, so I'm really happy to hear from someone up your way. I love to hear from people all over. Do you mean when you added some meat back into your diet you started losing weight? Your weight loss is very inspiring! I do love juicing, and I feel it contributes greatly to my energy level and peace of mind. I just feel so much better after juicing. I've started adding a pinch of Himalayan sea salt to my juice, which sounds weird, but I read somewhere that it helps add in even more minerals, as well as helping them be assimilated more easily. I "hide" the greens in my juice a lot, you learn to get used to the taste, lol. I gone off and on with the sprouting over the years. I'm currently "off" lol. I guess I should do it in the winter, since I'm sure I need it more, but it seems to be a summer thing for me. Gardening is my big "thing." I guess I was born with ten green thumbs. ;-)Cyndi In a message dated 4/26/2009 6:16:26 P.M. Guest guest
Hi Cyndi, I guess I wasn't very clear, we haven't added meat to our diet. My health got worse, because of my addiction to starches. Do you know how many desserts, breads and snacks are completely vegetarian? Joking aside, I have put on a 100 pounds on the standard cooked vegetarian diet. I was overweight before, but ballooned. Now, without cooked food, I don't have bread, potatoes, basically starches, which turn to sugar in the system and was driving my blood sugar to the point of borderline diabetes. So, without the carbohydrates to trigger cravings, I am satisfied with the raw food. However, I do indulge in a cooked meal on Sundays. It is still counter to what i wish, but for now, it helps my morale and socially, it is easier to have a cooked meal at the in-laws or in a favorite restaurant once a week and it hasn't affected my results. And I am so much more clear mentally, the fog is finally lifting, it was such a frustration, as I have so much living to do! I too wish i was able to homestead NOW ! My wish would be to have a couple of sheep for wool, as I am a felting fan. I prefer to needlefelting to wet felting, and I am a knitting die hard. I had to give it up last spring for 4 months because of the tennis elbow I developed. So, after wearing a brace and healing from a knitting injury, I declare it an official sport. I am knitting less and working outside more, walking the dog and cheering my husband and daughter on in their new efforts of rollerblading. I have also gotten the need to sleep better hours, my body is telling me what it needs, I was just to full to listen. Good night all. Guest guest
Hi Dana, I'm so sorry I missed your reply. It's been a crazy week. :-) I also tried a vegetarian diet years ago, and also developed health problems and gained weight as a result. They all resolved themselves once I added meat back into my diet. I've never tried a raw diet, per se, but I do try to eat a good variety of raw and cooked foods each day. I guess different things work for each of us. :-) Cyndi In a message dated 4/27/2009 7:21:38 P.M. Guest guest
Hello to everyone. This message goes out to the new member who has been diagnosed with lung cancer. I would hope that if I were diagnosed with cancer I would have the courage and stick-to-itiveness to commit to the Gerson Therapy, a detoxing program www. gerson.org I really believe in the fundamental logic of this therapy. You can buy some of the gerson books at amazon.com as well. Is it one in every two or one in every three people in the US will get cancer. There is so much information on the internet. The gerson therapy alkalizes the body and detoxes it so the immune system can work on the tumors. It is reported that cancer cannot live in an oxygenated (alkalized) body. In labs, cancer cells die when presented with oxygen. Thank you so much for joining! Please chime in and help this new member. Thank to all.
