Uniformity for Food Act

Please give your support to legislation in the U.S. House of

Representatives that will keep food safety warning standards high in

every state

Congress is scheduled to vote this week on a bill that would ensure the

foods you eat meet federally established high standards for safety

warnings and labeling. Not only will H.R. 4167, the National Uniformity

for Food Act, make certain that all food products are labeled clearly

and consistently, it will reduce manufacturing and distribution costs

that can save consumers money at the cash register.

While H.R. 4167 would mend the patchwork of state laws nationwide, it

does not bar state action to ensure foods are safe, as some have

claimed. What H.R. 4167 will do is prevent states from bottlenecking

interstate commerce of food products, including dietary supplements, by

heaping on unnecessary and burdensome warning requirements.

The bottom line is that H.R. 4167 would require that all foods meet the

same strict standard ï¿½ not 50 different standards ï¿½ for labeling and

safety warnings. This allows manufacturers to lower production costs

while keeping safety standards high. Ultimately, these savings are

passed on to you, the consumer.
