Selenium brings BRCA1 back to normal

 

Researchers compared the number of chromosome breaks in women with and without

BRCA1 breast cancer gene. Women with BRCA1 mutations had significantly more

chromosome breaks, a sign of cell damage that can lead to cancer. The

researchers then asked women with BRCA1 mutations to take high-dose selenium

supplements for three months. At the end of the study, the women's chromosome

damage had been reduced to normal levels.
