Guest guest
Hi Amelia, Get out your juicer!!! During my cancer treatment I had to have an iron supplement. Iron oxidizes and makes the cancer grow and spread! My choice was between the worse of two evils! I wish I had known more about juicing back then! Here is a list of vegetables and fruits that are good sources of iron:vegetables - spinach, swiss chard, chicory, kohlrabi, wheat grass, kale, artichoke, beets, beet greens, radish, endive, romaine lettuce, butterhead lettuce and iceberg lettuce (For beets start with 2 or 3 ounces a day and increase to 6 ounces a day because beets are a powerful cleanser)sprouts - radish, kidney bean, mung bean, pinto bean, navy bean, and lentilweeds - dandelion greens, purslane and lamb's quarter (often you have to find these and pick them yourself. Use only small amounts of purslane at a time because it is a powerful cleanser and has a bitter taste.)fruits - apples, cherries, strawberries, grapes, peaches, apricots, oranges, papaya, cranberries and raisins (I've never tried to juice raisins but they make a great snack for munching!)Have at least 2 iron rich juices a day. I have at least 4 glasses of fresh juice a day. I try to do more when I can. I'll have 3 veggies juices and 1 fruit juice. You can put iron rich veggies and fruit in all of your juices everyday because there is quite a variety of them. So you can make many different kinds of juices and add something from the iron rich list to each.Kale is a good source of almost everything! One of my favorite juices I make almost everyday is 3 kale leaves and 1 green apple. You can't taste the kale in it. It gives me alot of energy too. If you need some good juice recipes, I have alot. I know you already do alot of juicing though and shouldn't have a problem with recipes. But if you do, let me know. I hope this helps, Amelia. Good luck!Blessings, ReneeAmelia Gerlach <ameliagerlach wrote:Blank Hi, Renee. Do you know of good natural solutions to iron-deficiency anemia? Guest guest
Hi Amelia, I forgot to mention, as you increase your intake of iron, increase your intake of water. Iron requires alot of water to be absorbed and metabolized. If you don't get enough water, you could end up with a constipation problem. A good rule of thumb is to drink 2 and 1/2 quarts of water a day. If trying to lose weight, one should drink an additional 8 to 10 ounces of water each day for every 25 lbs of weight they wish to lose. If you are drinking a sufficient amount of water everyday, you will have no problem with the iron. We women especially need our iron! Another good way to get iron is to cook in good old fashioned cast iron pots and skillets. Some of the iron in the heated pots is absorbed into the food. I still have an old cast iron skillet. It's great for sauteeing my greens (mustard, collard, spinach, kale, turnip) in a very small amount of olive oil. Yes, I'm a displaced southerner!Blessings, ReneeAmelia Gerlach <ameliagerlach wrote:Blank Hi, Renee. Do you know of good natural solutions to iron-deficiency anemia? Guest guest
Hi Amelia, I have an inexpensive Juiceman Jr. The Kale is kind of hard on it because it is a rather dry vegetable. So I roll up the green leaves one or two at a time and put them thru the juicer followed by something with more water in it, like an apple. Spinach, lettuce and other greens that have more water go through the juicer pretty easily. On Gina's website, she has her juicing journal. She said on there that she had the same kind of juicer as me but got a bigger one that she says works alot better. My mom bought mine while I was going thru my cancer treatment. It has served me well over the last 4 years. Maybe when I get back on my feet financially, I'll but a bigger, better juicer. But for now, the one I have is just fine. If you would like to see Gina's juicing journal, her website is: www.ginakopera.com.Blessings, ReneeAmelia Gerlach <ameliagerlach wrote:Blank Thanks so much, Renee. Guest guest
Hi Amelia, I grew up in Tennessee. I have been in Michigan since 1977, but some people tell me I still have a bit of my southern accent! I sautee greens in about 2 tablespoons of olive oil for 3 or 4 minutes. I also sometimes put them in my pressure cooker in 1 and 1/2 inches of water and a little sea salt and cook them for 1 minute. Either way, they are delicious and oh so healthy! Do you guys (or y'all! ) have polk salad in NC? I haven't had any polk salas in almost 30 years! I haven't met anyone outside of TN that has even heard of it. It is a weed that we would go out into the fields and pastures and pick ourselves. We would go into the creeks and pick watercress too. It's a shame we can't all live that way in this day and age! We'd be alot healthier. Of course, we would still have to eliminate the biscuits and gravy, banana pudding and good old fashioned southern fried chicken!Blessings, ReneeAmelia Gerlach <ameliagerlach wrote:Blank Where in the South are you from? Guest guest
No, I never heard of polk salad! Well, I'm actually not from around here...I am from Colombia, South America, but have lived in the States (in the South) for 32 years! So, I guess you can say I'm a "Southerner". My husband is from Buffalo, NY and my 2 kids were born in SC and NC. Thanks a bunch for the greens recipe. I'm going to try it tonight. I'm trying to do 4 juices now (carrot, apple and some green stuff). Happy Valentine's Day! Guest guest
Hi Doreen, I've just been busy with the mental health work and having a Valentine's Day party for 23 kindergartners! I'm just starting to get back on track today. Sushi should be fine in regard to candida. Fresh fish is good. Wasabi is made from the wasabi plant so it is fine too. Some wasabi's are made with horseradish, mustard and artificial color though. I would check to see if it is real wasabi, though the only bad part of the other wasabi is the artificial color. I would not use soy sauce or tamari though. I would find out what kind of rice is used to roll the sushi too. You want to avoid white rice. You can make your own sushi. A good friend lived in Japan for awhile and made great sushi for us when she would come home. She lives in South Africa now! I have a link to one website that I know of (sushi is big in my house!). It tells you all you need to know to make sushi - ingredients, tools and all the how to's.It is: http://www.rain.org/~hutch/sushi.htmlI had the flu recently too. It lasted for about 2 weeks. I did alot of juicing. I took 3000mg. Vitamin C a day. And used a vaporizor! You can increase your alkalinity by juicing 1/4 head of cabbage with 3 carrots. Also, by mixing 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda in 6 oz of natural spring water and drinking that everyday. When you increase your alkalinity, you are strengthening your immune system. I was juicing 3 oranges a day, in addition to the extra Vitamin C. get lots of rest too. You absolutely have give your body time to fight the flu bug and recover strength. Anything you have to do will still be there when you are feeling better. Get as much sleep as possible. Also, drink as much water as possible, to avoid getting dehydrated. Water is better than electrolyte replacing drinks like Gatorade. If nausea is a problem, juice an apple with 1/4 inch slice of ginger root and add a little spring water. Or juice a 2 inch slice of ginger root with a lemon. Put the juice in a sauce pan with a pint of spring water, a cinnamon stick and 4 or 5 cloves and simmer for about 5 minutes. You can add some nutmeg or cardamom, if you like. If all else fails, some flat gingerale will work, though I try to never recommend soda! For anything!!!For congestion, get some eucalyptus oil. Put some on your forhead, throat and wrists everyday. I use essential oils for lots of things. I love them. They work and they smell good too!I hope you are feeling better soon, Doreen. I will get back with you soon on our email conversation. I haven't forgotten that. Take care and get well!Blessings, Renee<hypnoc wrote: Hi Renee, How are you dear, didn't hear from you for so long... Guest guest
Hi Doreen, I get my oils at candle shops, magick shops or anywhere else that sells occult items or religious items. Inquire as to it's purity when you buy it. Some very pure oils can burn your skin (not bad, but enough to make it red). I've never been burned with eucalyptus oil. In fact, I've only been burned with almond oil, which is supposed to be used for a carrier oil for other oils! If in doubt, put a small drop on the back of your hand. If you don't feel heat immediately, then it is OK. I use those very pure oils for making other oil blends and incense. For constipation, you can juice 2 apples and 1 pear. Another juice is 1/4 inch slice of ginger root, 1 beet, 1/2 apple and 4 carrots. Also, the alkaline cocktail (cabbage and carrots) juice is good. Or you can just juice 1 beet with 1 apple. I do that almost everyday for regularity.Another good thing is mandrake. It is an herb. Did you see the Harry Potter movie where the young witches are learning to harvest their mandarake plants? Put 1 teaspoon of the dried herb (it looks like sticks) into just boiled water and steep for about 5 minutes. Add some honey because mandrake has a bitter taste. But it works really well. I get the mandrake at the same places I get my oils. You can find it at some health food stores that carry herbs too.I hope some of this helps Doreen. Good luck.Blessings, Renee hypnoc <hypnoc wrote: Thanks Renee, It is good to hear from you I have been constipated, I did everything, including the enema, what else can I do?? Guest guest
Say hey Renee, I have been out of town on business and the day I left I came down with a kicker of a flu. I thought my ears were going to explode when we landed in Hartford Ct and I was about 70% deaf for about 3 hours. When I had the worst of the fibromyalgia two of the problems were 1) a sinus infection which the doctors denied and 2) a candida infection which went from the tip of my tongue to you know where. The sinus infection was relieved by a holostic gal who recommended that I use 1 tsp arm and hammer baking soda plus 1 -2 tsp non-iodized sea salt in a pint of DI water. I sniffed a hand full up each nostril while holding my head parallel to the ground. I then blow it out. I repeat this three times with each nostril. When I first started and when I have a cold the cleansing is amazing. In less than two weeks the pain in my sinuses, teeth and jaw were 90% gone and now are 99% gone. I still do this every day and twice a day when I have a cold. You won't believe what is in your sinuses until you get it out! Oh, I forgot. When I first started this she had me add a couple of drops of tincture of walnut to a quarter of the mix. It isn't soluble so you have to mix it and use all of it that day. I no longer us the walnut tincture. This same lady recommended a pill for the candida that, I believe, was sodium laureate. Well, it seemed to work but was really expensive so I investigated and found that it was derived from coconut oil. I bought some organic coconut oil and started taking a tsp in the morning and at night. I let it melt on my tongue. In two weeks my tongue was pink again (it had been white for at least 3 years) and a lot of intestinal pain was gone. I swear by it and still take it. I'll try to stay in touch. Guest guest
Thanks Rick! I have been meaning to try the arm and Hammer baking soda and the non iodized sea salt cleanse. I have been busy with end of the month work, myself. Now that things have slowed down a bit, I will. Doreen is feeling better now. But if you're still congested, Doreen, you should try this too. I know what it did for Rick. I will let everyone know what it does for me too. I want to get the coconut oil too. But I have to figure out how to make a tincture of walnut. I may have a recipe in a book somewhere. I've always preferred making to buying, when I can. It's usually cheaper too.
