Guest guest
Hi, I have several health issues and the meds doctors give me have done nothing but made me gain weight. Before I started taking medication daily I had few health problems, just an occasional bout of bronchitis that would hit me in cold weather. The things I want to control naturally are asthma (my only symptom of this is chest tightness), acid reflux, and PCOS (Polycystic Ovarium Syndrom). I am taking Metformin for this, steroid stuff for the asthma and Omeprazole for the acid reflux. This is a lot of medication and I hate it. I have just bought some Gigko, Chromium, and Echinacea. How long do I have to wait after getting off synthetic medication before I can safely start using herbs? Also could anyone recommend a good starter book? I'm sorry there is so much information I need to know, I'm just starting out and really appreciate all the knowledge you can give me on natural healing. Guest guest
Hi Aymee, The best place to start in my opinion for what its worth is with diet. The right diet will clear up acid reflux and asthma in most cases. I am sold on the Blood Typing diets and have seen what people would consider miracles happen in a very short time. I would buy the book Eat Right 4 Your Type either at amazon: http://tinyurl.com/ex9mr Or Cook Right 4 Your Type and follow the diet that corresponds to your blood type. Or at your local book store. I would also quit drinking liquids with meals. Depending on your blood type this can make a world of difference all by itself. Guest guest
Aymee, I had H-Pyloric, which is a stomach infection. I went to several doctors and had several x-ray exams about my painful burning stomach along with acid reflux and could not find the problem. At this time, I had been to more than 20 doctors due to also having cancer and Valley Fever. Finally, the oncologist orders a special blood test for H-Pyloric. Anything over 1.9 on the blood test indicates an infection. Mine was at 8, therefore, the doctor said I had a roaring infection. First I was on a high dose of antibotic. Then, doctors gave me Prilosec, Nexium, and many other drugs for acid and heartburn. None of these worked. I had a terrible burning in my stomach as well as heartburn. I stopped the drugs and used DGL, which is Licorice. Also, I used slippery elm mixed with warm water and cinnamon. All of the drugs were very expensive, Nexium was about $200.00. Aymee, this took a long time, but anytime my stomach burns, I suck on a DGL or Licorice tablet. - Aymee Thomas Sunday, August 14, 2005 12:03 PM New Member - health issues Hi,I have several health issues and the meds doctors give me have done nothing but made me gain weight. Guest guest
Aymee, I want to suggest that you have a food allergy test done (by blood, though, the others don't work). Some of your asthma and heartburn could be caused by allergies. Guest guest
Hi Aymee, I want to say welcome and back Dan up on the Eat Right for Your Type Diet and CookBook. That is the diet that my radiation oncologist wanted me to use when I was going through a very aggressive chemo and radiation treatment for colo-rectal cancer. I was already eating a macrobiotic dietic and continued that. My doctor has a Ph.D. in traditional medicine, but also practices integrative medicine and believes strongly in proper metabolic nutrition. And though I have very little faith in doctors, I love this lady and am very sure she knows exactly what she is doing. She supported my decision to continue the macrobiotic diet. I do now, however, have both the Eat Right for Your Type and Cook Right for Your Type books in my collection and have recommended them to people on many occassions. Go through the archives and find my cancer story and my cancer nutrition story and read those. I may be able to offer you other nutritional avenues, but right now my time is very limited and has been all summer. I'm trying to get here as often as I can though. Good Luck and Welcome again. Blessings, Renee --- Dan <dan_jackowiak wrote: > Hi Aymee, > > The best place to start in my opinion for what its > worth is with diet.
