Hi. I hope you all can help me. My husband has been terminated without cause from work (a budget cutting thing) and we are without medical insurance. We have a variety of maladies going on here, which I will list below. Basically, I need help with treating these things without meds, and without spending a great deal of money, which we do NOT have right now.

My oldest dd suffers terribly from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder with scrupulosity and religiousity. The ONLY thing that has helped and enabled her to function is 125 mg of zoloft daily. Without it she is a mess. She is also terribly insomniac, and we have tried EVERYTHING...from chamomile, to valerian, to melatonin, warm milk, etc, to no avail. We have also cut white flour, white sugar, preservatives, artificial colors, flavors, etc to the best of my ability.

My youngest dd also has Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, but hers manifests itself as fear of everything. It paralyzes her. She is on 75 mg of zoloft, and with it functions quite well. She also has attention deficit disorder, and it has effected her schooling. She is homeschooled, so I worked for quite some time with her one on one before "giving in" to this diagnosis. She is on concerta, but I would like for her NOT to be. Again, we have made the above dietary changes.

Both of my children have STRONG gag reflexes and will NOT take any supplements, etc. that taste "nasty". I have tried to have my younger dgt take a supplement called Attentive Child, which I tasted, (and it tastes quite good in my opinion!) but she cannot stomach it. What can I do? Also, in my books that I have, it recommends quite a few supplements for each condition. I do NOT have the money for this at this time.

My husband also has attention deficit, adult onset diabetes, and high cholesterol. I have high blood pressure, adult onset diabetes, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder/Generalized anxiety disorder, and high cholesterol. I am also about 80 pounds overweight, but I have damage to my knees and elbows/wrists from bone chips (repetitive movement injuries from cleaning houses) and chemically induced asthma from cleaning houses for several years.

(Gosh, we sound like such a mess! We are much healthier than we sound, I think! OY!)

I don't want to be on a ton of medications, but the problems that we deal with are pretty severe and are things I am loathe to let "slide". Any advice that won't cost us a whole lot of money? Unemployment pays enough for us to make our housepayment, so we are severely cash strapped at the moment.

Thanks so much,

Blessings,

Tammy

Tammy, I feel for you. Try cutting out all wheat, dairy and milk too. I know it sounds hard, but the good thing is it will actually save you money! Most people are allergic to these. Wishing you the best in a hard situation, Amelia

Hello Tammy, welcome to the group.

I believe most of your symptoms and your family's are

due to diet. Mainly three culprits, but much more.

Wheat.

Sugar.

Processed milk products. Food that is too altered to

be accepted by the body.

hidden msg,

and the wrong kind of fatty acids.

When I avoid sugar and wheat, I find myself to be

almost a new person, no depression, no anxiety, and no

lupus symptoms. Wheat and corn are inflammatory

agents.

My suggestion to you is to start on a variation of the

anticandida diets or the Gerson diet. Organic foods.

Avoidance of carbs that feed candida. Candida is

associated with all the symptoms you described. You

can turn this around, even slowly. You can make a

difference in your family's health every day. It has

only been in the last 20,000? years that humans have

consumed wheat. In tribal communities where there are

no reports of common American illnesses like diabetes,

cancer, heart disease, lupus, etc. when they start to

bring in corn and wheat as food staples, the people in

the villages start developing these illnesses.

If you don't have major allergies to milk, try getting

organic yoghurt like Yo Baby sweetened naturally. Get

Barlean's flax oil and walnuts or flax seeds. Mix a

tablespoon of flax oil into the yoghurt. Put some

walnuts in with the yoghurt. You will see a difference

in temperament within an hour or so, also pain, if you

have pain.

Your children need to avoid the Standard American

Diet. They need foods with magnesium and calcium in

them. Vitamin D from the sun, and foods with a lot of

omega 3 fatty acids. No one needs all those grains. If

you have wheat try whole grain, but remember it is

inflammatory (Omega 6 fatty acids) For starters, I

would look into the anticandida diet found online (a

good book is Breaking the Vicious Cycle by Elaine

Gottschall). Then look into the Gerson Therapy, and

the Budwig diet. These are excellent places to start

your research.

Good luck! Take care, Kel

I agree with Kelly and Amelia, and if you want to take it a step farther, get the book Eat Right 4 Your Type by Dr. D Adamo. Course you have to know your blood types for this to work correctly. Try it, I do not think you will be disappointed.joe cline <susabean wrote:
