Homeopathy more effective than medicine

 

Homeopathy wins over Modern Medicine

(Updated) Homeopathy is often criticised as being no

more effective

than placebo, despite the experience of many

homeopaths and their

patients. The success of treating " incurable " or

difficult chronic

conditions with Homeopathy (especially where

conventional medicine has

failed) defies the skeptic’s claims of homeopathy

being placebo.

 

A new study, which compares how well homeopathy

performs against

conventional medicine, has shown which method is more

effective. This

is measured in both the cost and success of treatment.

 

 

" Researchers in Germany recruited more than 400 adults

and children

with long-term health problems ranging from sinusitis

to insomnia and

depression. Half were treated using conventional

therapy; the other

half were treated homeopathically. After six months,

the condition of

the patients treated homeopathically had improved

significantly more,

and more quickly, than the others while the cost for

each was similar. "

 

I have not been able to track down the original study

as yet, however

these results are encouraging. More studies like this

will encourage

serious study into how homeopathy works, and hopefully

promote greater

acceptance in the scientific and medical communities.

 

Update:

I have found an older study (2001) which has similar

aims. The results

of which are shown below (bolding and emphasis mine):

 

" Four hundred and fifty-six (456) patient visits were

compared: 281

received homeopathy, 175 received conventional

medicine. The response

to treatment as measured by the primary outcomes

criterion for patients

receiving homeopathy was 82.6%, for conventional

medicine it was 68%.

Improvement in less than 1 day and in 1 to 3 days was

noted in 67.3% of

the group receiving homeopathy and in 56.6% of those

receiving

conventional medicine. The adverse events for those

treated with

conventional medicine was 22.3% versus 7.8% for those

treated with

homeopathy. Seventy-nine percent (79.0%) of patients

treated with

homeopathy were very satisfied and 65.1% of patients

treated with

conventional medicine were very satisfied. In both

treatment groups 60%

of cases had consultations lasting between 5 and 15

minutes. "

 

From these results we see how those treated with

homeopathy:

 

* had a better response - 82.6%

* had less adverse effects - 7.8%

* and were more satisfied - 79%
