Crohn's Disease

One of the more serious chronic food related diseases

is Crohn's disease. We know people with this disease

have abnormalities of the immune system. The most

common symptoms of Crohn's disease are abdominal pain,

often in the lower right quadrant, and diarrhea. This

disease usually begins in young people and tends to

involve the end of the small intestine in inflammatory

swelling. However, it can affect any part of the

digestive tract. Crohn's affects men and women equally

and seems to run in some families. About 20 percent of

people with this disease have a blood relative with

some form of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), the

general name for diseases that cause inflammation in

the intestines.

The Sage Delayed Food Allergy Test is a safe

non-invasive approach to treating Crohn's disease.

Using our multiple pathways testing allows us to offer

a more comprehensive analysis for delayed food

reactions that cause this debilitating illness. The

reactive foods can be identified accurately and

quickly through the use of this blood test. Removing

the offending foods from the diet allows the body's

natural healing process to begin quickly thereby

providing lasting relief from the devastating effects

of Crohn's disease.

Normally the initial treatment for most people with

Crohn's disease is through the use of drugs that

control inflammation. Drugs that suppress the immune

system are also routinely prescribed. However, these

drugs can cause serious side effects, including

greater susceptibility to infection, nausea, vomiting,

heartburn, diarrhea and headache. Additionally, these

drugs only provide temporary relief from the effects

of Crohn's by treating the symptoms instead of the

underlying cause of the disease. More importantly, use

of these drugs does not necessarily prevent the need

for surgery, which, while surgery can help Crohn's

disease, it cannot cure it.

Thus the question remains - what is the most effective

treatment for Crohn's disease? To help answer this, we

refer to the Surgeon General's report on nutrition and

health issued in 1987 in which he stated that there is

a " convergence of similar dietary recommendations that

apply to prevention of multiple chronic diseases.

Diseases of nutritional deficiencies have declined and

have been replaced by diseases of dietary excesses and

imbalances-problems that now rank among the leading

causes of illness and death. It touches the lives of

most Americans, and generates substantial health care

costs. " Food is the most intimate part of our

environment because food is ingested. When something

goes wrong, it makes good biological sense to look at

the flow of substances through the mouth for the

source of the problem. There are two types of adverse

reactions to foods - immediate and delayed. Immediate

reactions are easy to self diagnose, but delayed

reactions are very difficult to pin down. Since most

autoimmune diseases and chronic conditions, including

Crohn's disease, are caused by delayed autoimmune

responses to foods in the digestive track, only a

multiple pathway testing method provides the necessary

information for a diagnosis that actually improves

your health by avoiding reactive foods.

Food and the environment are basic determinants of

health. Food causes more than half of all serious and

chronic diseases in North America. The most effective

and reliable test available today to accurately

diagnose delayed food allergies is the Sage Delayed

Food Allergy Test.
