Portion size counts.Even if it’s healthy food, too much can mean weight gain. Tip the scale in your favor by eating what you need…then stopping when you’re satisfied. Make a habit of mentally splitting your portion in two. Eat one half, then wait a few minutes. You may find you’re satisfied with less. Save the other half for a snack.

Daily walks relieve feelings of anxiety and depression, and increase feelings of enthusiasm and optimism. And that's not all. Daily walks also can help you boost your energy level, enhance your self-image, release tension, manage stress, and improve your ability to fall asleep quickly and sleep well.

Schedule inviolate periods of time into your workday for tasks that are pleasurable, even if not overwhelmingly productive. Try to do this even when you feel rushed. A brisk 10-minute walk will give you as much energy as a cup of coffee. Take advantage of breaks and lunches to do things that will reverse the stress response. For example, go to a quiet place and do a relaxation exercise. A light conversation with your co-workers will release tension and may give you a fresh perspective on a problem that was weighing you down.

Despite the name, buttermilk is a great secret for low-fat cooks to keep up their sleeves. Buttermilk is either skim or low-fat, and fermented with beneficial bacteria that leaves its characteristic tang. Its acidity helps keep baked goods tender without adding fat, and its creamy texture makes a good base for salad dressings. It's a delicious addition to mashed potatoes and makes a thick, tangy, low-fat soup base. It also makes a fine smoothie: Combine frozen berries, buttermilk and sugar (to taste) in a blender. Blend until smooth.
