MYTH: "I take a multi-vitamin every day, so I am getting all of the vitamins and minerals I need." Did you know that in the absence of minerals, vitamins are essentially useless? Quoting from U.S. Senate document 264:"We know that vitamins are complex chemical substances which are indispensable to nutrition, and that each of them is of importance for the normal function of some special structure of the body.""It is not commonly realized that vitamins control the body's appropriation of minerals, and in the absence of minerals they have no function to perform. 99% of the American people are deficient in minerals, and a marked deficiency in any one of the more important minerals actually results in disease." Dr. Linus Pauling, winner of two Nobel Prizes, claimed, "You can trace every sickness, every disease, and every ailment to a mineral deficiency." Consider this: out of the 60 or so essential

minerals that your body requires each day, your vitamin pill most likely has less than 20. Pop all you want, and you're still missing many vital nutrients. And furthermore, the minerals contained in such vitamins are virtually useless. That is because most minerals added to multivitamins of any sort are in the metallic form.Metallic minerals are derived from sources such as clay, oyster shell, mineral waters, egg shell, lactates, sulfates, carbonates and oxides. Basically, metallic minerals are just ground up rocks. You can only absorb 8-12% of the minerals in this form, so most of the nutrients just pass right through you. If you are lucky enough for a vitamin tablet to actually dissolve, the 100% daily value of whatever minerals are listed on the label will only absorb into your system at the afore mentioned 8-12%. That means the benefit you receive from your multivitamin at best is still next to

nothing. The closest you will get to high absorbability with any pill or powder will be products using chelated (key-lay-ted) minerals. Chelated minerals were developed with an amino acid or enzyme wrapped around the metal atom, resulting in a 30 to 50% absorption rate. Still far from ideal. The best way to consume minerals is in the ionic form. Occurring in whole foods, ionic minerals are 98% absorbable, two times more available than chelated, and up to ten times more absorbable than metallic minerals! The way ionic nutrients are produced is a natural process in which plants use the metallic minerals in the soil (if they are present...remember Senate document 264 states that our farm and rain soils are depleted!), and converts them within the plants tissues into an ionic state. In this state the minerals are 7,000 times smaller than red blood cells, and are negatively charged. Our intestinal lining is

positively charged, hence producing a magnetic gradient which insures high absorbability!Ionic minerals are always in a liquid form, and must be derived from a living plant source. With our field and crop soils depreciated of any real nutritive value, the best source today to find mineral rich whole food is the pristine waters of the arctic sea."Earl Mindell's Vitamin Bible," (Warner Books, 1991 edition, page 142) says this of sea vegetables (known as kelp), "this amazing sea weed contains more vitamins and minerals than any other food." Whole food ionic minerals are the minerals our bodies were designed to use, not ground up rocks. Our bodies simply cannot make good use of most of the minerals found in vitamin pills. We would have to consume dozens (perhaps hundreds) of pills daily to meet all of our body's nutritive needs. Not only would that wreak havoc on our digestive system, it would kill our

wallet! There are indeed many good supplements available in pill form. Vitamins, herbs and other natural products can be taken with a certain degree of confidence. But when we consider the essential minerals that we need, vitamin pills by and large just don't get the job done.Only whole food products containing organic ionic minerals can effectively provide us with nutrients that are both body ready and budget friendly.
