Guest guest
Science and Supplement News: Selenium May Prevent Prostate Cancer Advance Selenium supplements may stop prostate cancer from progressing but not necessarily from occurring in the first place. A study reported in the May 5, 2004, issue of the Journal of the National Cancer Institute compared selenium levels from 586 men who eventually developed prostate cancer to levels among 577 men who didn’t develop the disease. Results showed that men with the highest levels of selenium were 48-percent less likely to develop advanced prostate cancer than men with the lowest levels. A much larger study to determine whether selenium protects against prostate cancer is underway. This effort, the Selenium and Vitamin E Cancer Prevention Trial (SELECT), sponsored by the National Cancer Institute, is seeking to enroll more than 32,000 men to see if either nutrient helps prevent prostate cancer. Earlier studies have suggested that selenium may decrease the risk of prostate cancer by more than 60 percent. http://www.drweil.com/app/cda/drw_cda.html-command=Archive-archiveId=16#1 Friends. Fun.
