Guest guest
Greetings.. I have recently had a shot of cortizone in my knee for the pain of arthritis... (osteo).. I was wondering if any one knew about the body taking a reaction to the chemicals.. in the predisone.. such as freezing cold extremities.. but sweating to the point of being wet.. and difficulty swallowing.. and sick to the stomach on rising.. I am a Reiki master and reflexologists.. I have done what i can to relieve the sypmtoms.. and i have drank lots of purified water.. and walked as much as i can even though i am supposed to rest with a ice pack.. I wonder if any one has any more knowledge on this subject to help enlighten me .. its been over 48 hrs.. and i am starting to feel better.. but i would like to know.. just in case i ever have to go through this again.. Guest guest
yes, you have my deepest sympathy! I too had a reaction to a shot in my shoulder joint capsule. As the day progressed I statred feeling generally unwell, and by night started feeling excruciating pain. Couldn't even move my fingers, let alone lift my arm, etc. I don't panic easily. I've even gotten from the woods into the house and then to the ER with a badly broken foot, but I got truly frightened at the extreme pain and inability to move. Fortunately I had a MD friend that answered the phone in the late night hours for me. These reactions are not common at all. She said she has only had one patient that had this reaction. She said the drug had crystalized, the reaction was very uncommon and it would be much better in the morning. She said take some tylenol 3 if I had it and rest it. I just used a heating pad and did a lot of deep breathing. I was better, but still took 2 days to really get better. She also told me the reason the reaction occured was because I did not rest the joint for the rest of the day after the shot. DO NOT EXERCIZE IT!! Arthritis in the inflamatory stage needs rest and only gentle range of motion, anyway, and the drug needs to work into the area slowly. Use ice for the first treatment for a cortisone reaction. She said the drug probably would not have that reaction if I followed instructions and rested, and could probably take the shot again if it worked (after the initial horrible reaction). Of course, after that frightening experience and pain, no way! This was not a true allergy reaction. good luck dee --- maggy <maggymugs wrote: > Greetings..
