Guest guest
Hello everyone! I was wondering if anyone here has any tips for blending essential oils? I specifically want to learn more about mixing & matching the notes or tones of oils to get a very well balanced blend. Also, does anyone have any good [successful] blends for depression during pregnancy? Namaste, Miranda

Guest guest
Hi Miranda, I can only answer from personal experience...don't have formal training in this. Many years ago I was in a depression (undiagnosed) and was in a store w/various potpourris and I started smelling them and kept returning to one that I adored. I swear, when I left, I felt stoned. It was called Elizabethan Rose. I bought the potpourri and it came in a spray form also, not for use on human body. I sprayed the underside of all wooden furniture with it. But I'd regularly go to the drawer where I kept it, open the bag which I kept tightly sealed, and sniff it til I felt better. (eventually the depression had to be dealt with in a more definitive manner)...but years later when I read that the property of rose is anti-depressant, I found it very interesting. I've found that orange has a great effect on me. Recently I put them in bowls just to look at in the winter and as we eat them, I dry the skins in the oven slowly to diffuse the smell through the house. There are some lovely tropical blends I've bought that have other smells, but the orange smell is supposed to make most people feel happy. Now we come to the big L. Lavender. Many people can't stand it. Some love it. I use it, b/c many years ago I read that Edgar Cayce said that lavender is the most spiritually uplifting smell. I diffuse it in my house and I have a bottle of expensive bubble bath that uses oils. The one w/lavender is called Detente which means Relaxation in French. Lately I've not been sleeping well and saw a new product made to put on oneself...it's called Gentle nights and you put it on to promote good restorative sleep...you put it on the pulse points. It's really made me sleep well. It's got lavender in it, but other things too. Since my husband always asks " what smells funny? " when I diffuse lavender, I wanted to spare him :-) In this mix, it doesn't bother him. The mix also has orangey smells which seem to reach his nose more plus some other things in it for sleep. To beat the end of the winter blues, I've had either pink or blue blooming hyacinths in my home for the last month and find this smell makes me feel euphoric. Ah, can't wait to smell that first lilac blossom this spring. I use lilac water as a skin toner (bought from the Edgar Cayce foundation), just because it makes me feel good and smile. Rose water is lovely also. And so is watermelon or peach soap. It's just this year that I learned that the fruits apparently make people feel good. Raspberry and passionfruit don't do it for me, but the watermelon or good peachy soap or body spray is heavenly. BTW, about the rose. I bought another rose mix and it wasn't at all like Elizabethan Rose...didN't have the same effect or smell at all. The one I didn't like had pink rose petals. Elizabethan Rose had miniature dark red whole roses. Hope some of this will help as you begin your journey into aromas.
