Sugar is the Root of all Evil:

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

Limiting sugar is CRITICAL. Eating refined sugar

weakens your immune system and promotes yeast

overgrowth. All non & #8209;diet pops have 8 teaspoons

in each can. Most packaged cereals have sugar as

their major ingredient. Avoid most natural sweeteners

(including corn syrup, fructose, honey, sucrose,

maltodextrin, dextrose, molasses, rice milk, white

grape juice, fruit juice sweetened, brown rice syrup,

maple syrup, date sugar, cane sugar, corn sugar, beet

sugar, succanat and lactose). READ LABELS!

However, you need not become obsessive about sugar.

If it is the 4th or 5th ingredient in a food that

would probably be acceptable. Many people are addicted

to sugar and should avoid all sugars permanently for

optimal health. This is not much different than

someone who is addicted to alcohol and requires total

abstinence. If you must have some sugar, RAW honey

(not from the grocery store) would be the best choice

(one source is 800 & #8209;654 & #8209;4593) and is best

eaten with a large meal, NOT as a between meal snack.

Many people ask about Equal or Nutrasweet (Aspartame).

These artificial sweeteners need to be eliminated.

There are more adverse reactions to Nutrasweet

reported to the FDA than all other foods and additives

combined. In certain individuals, it can have

devastating consequences. If you need an alternative

healthy sweetener, an herb called Stevia may be used.

It is available at the health food store. One should

also avoid MSG.

Avoid Processed or Synthetic Foods and Drinks:

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

Especially avoid:

Refined sugar: sugar, corn syrup, fructose, high

fructose corn syrup, dextrose, maple syrup (grade A),

and honey are different forms of refined sugar.

Refined carbohydrates. Eat whole grain bread, pastas,

or noodles

Saturated, processed, or synthetic fats. Margerine

and olestra are examples of synthetic fats. Increase

omega 3 fatty acids.

Soft drinks and drinks with synthetic materials

Avoid synthetic salt (tables salt). Use unprocessed

seas salt such as Celtic salt, sparingly.

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

Natural Modalities for Pain

General – Nikken Biomagnets

Soliten (auricular therapy) – very

effective especially for acute pain

Aromatherapy – Warming: cinnamon, cayenne, ginger,

aconite, valerian, tumeric

Neutral: chamomile, licorice

Cooling: peppermint,

dandelion, black cohosh

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

Synthetic Vitamins Are Not Good For You

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

Unknown food factors are missing in a multiple vitamin

formula. Each time you take the vitamin formula, your

body has to supply these unknown components.

Long-term use results in imbalance.

The proportion of each vitamin is not natural, also

causing imbalances.

Synthetic substances have no life, the most important

factor in healing.

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

The Yin and Yang of Food

<><><><><><><><><><><><><>

If you are relatively yang excess or in deficient

(feeling hot most of the time, bad breath,

inflammation, hot flashes, night sweat), do not eat

food that is too warming: greasy or spicy foods,

garlic, ginger, cinnamon, cayenne and black pepper,

etc.

If you are relatively in access or yang deficient

(feeling cold most of the time, lack of energy, cold

aggravates your pain, excessive watery mucus and

edema, etc.), minimize eating food data to cooling:

water melon, envelope, honeydew, persimmon, raw foods

and salads, to name a few.

Capsaicin, made from cayenne pepper, is actually very

bad for shingles, which is a heat and damp condition.

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

Tips for Eating

<><><><><><><><>

Most important rule is DO NOT OVER-EAT. Stop when you

are 80% full.

Each slowly and chew thoroughly to allow proper

digestion.

Do not heat under emotional strain

Minimize snacks between meals.

Ice drinks and cold food are bad for you.

If you tend to be warm/hot, eat food that are cooling

(yin characteristic). If you tend to be cold, each

food that are warming (yang). More on this later.

It is interesting that this message lists (toward the bottom) pasta

as a recommended food. Would it surprise you to know that, according

to Dr. Barry Sears, the 8 ounces of pasta that people often consume

in one meal will be broken down into the same amount of carbohydrate

(and glucose) that you would get from eating 4 snickers bars in one

sitting? " That 8 ounces of pasta will send your insulin levels

soaring. The more insulin you produce, the fatter you become. "

Clearly, it's not just the amount sugar we take in in the form of

sugar, but also the foods we eat that quickly convert to glucose

(sugar) in our bodies and cause sudden surges of insulin, which, in

turn, causes all sorts of other problems. Some of the cold cereals

that people eat, even those that include whole grains, convert into

glucose in the body faster than ordinary table sugar.

This is very interesting, Dennis. How does one assess the insulin reaction

of foods?

Check out some of Dr. Barry Sears more recent books for " glycemic

load. " This is a more accurate measure of insulin respone than

the " glycemic index " by itself. Sears points out, for example, that

even though broccoli and pasta have about the same glycemic index, 1

cup of pasta generates 20 times the insulin response of 1 cup of

broccoli. " The glycemic load takes into account the actual serving

size of a particular food, and pasta is a very high-density

carbohydate. An apple, for example, generates 6 times the insulin

response as 1 cup of broccoli. (From The Top 100 Zone Foods, by Dr.

Barry Sears).
