Dawn,

Is it okay if I ask some folks I know about this problem? We had

discussed similar cases a while back but I can't remember all the

details so I want to run it by them to see what they have to say. It

could be a liver toxicity problem or a mineral deficiency - those two

things stick out in my head as causing Alzheimer's type of symptoms, if

I am remembering right...

As far as the aromatherapy goes, I think that could be a good start.

However, many folks believe that Lavendar, while soothing and relaxing,

can also make a foggy head worse. I was using it quite a bit to help

with insomnia but it did help that somewhat but it does make me more

groggy (I have fibromyalgia) and makes me harder to wake up/focus in the

mornings. I use Rosemary now to help with alertness and memory and try

to stay away from the lavendar. I think that small change has helped my

frame of mind (and memory/fogginess/etc) very much. So maybe lavender

isn't the best choice for her at this time. I am not as knowledgeable

in aromatherapy as I would like to be but this one I do have personal

experience with.

You might also look at homeopathic remedies and see what fits her

symptoms and might help. They will not conflict with any

pharmaceuticals that she is on and could very well straighten out the

problem completely. I'd hate to see her diagnosed with Alzheimer's and

given more drugs or hospitalized when that is not what is going on with

her. Arnica is always a good idea before and immediately after surgery

of any kind. There is also an Arnica gel you can buy that is Great for

healing most any kind of wound.

Bach's Rescue Remedy would be good for the shock to her body and

emotions, as would Star of Bethlehem.

If you are afraid her family won't be understanding about alt meds, then

print out some info or take a book to explain them. I know this is

often the case with folks and have run up against that myself. A

neighbor is having surgery this week and " following his doctors orders "

is refusing to take his Arnica before hand although he should know by

now that A) it will help immensely, and B) it will not conflict with the

surgery or drugs they give him. Very exasperating, ya know? Oh well,

it's his body - if he wants to be in extra pain and take longer to heal

then necessary I guess it is up to him. Bugs me though 'cos he takes

Arnica and other homeopathics all the time and knows full well how

wonderfully they work.

Good luck and let us know how she is doing, okay?

Peace!

Hello Group! I am about driving myself crazy. A good e-mail friend of

itself went well - but the anesthesia is doing a number on my poor

friend! She is in her 80's. She was very alert, oriented to person,

place, and time - etc. Now - she is acting very much like an Alzheimer's

patient. Disoriented. Confused. NOT in her right mind at all! I will

be seeing her IN PERSON on Wednesday. It seems to me, that there has got

to be an aromatherapy answer for my friend! Something, that is going to

help her with clarity of mind, and help her purge this poison from her

body. I keep thinking Lavendar oil. I don't have a very extensive

collection yet - and I don't know her family well enough to know if they

would be open to an " alternative approach " .

Hello Group!

I am about driving myself crazy.

A good e-mail friend of mine had surgery the other day for a knee replacement. The surgery itself went well - but the anesthesia is doing a number on my poor friend!

She is in her 80's.

She was very alert, oriented to person, place, and time - etc.

Now - she is acting very much like an Alzheimer's patient. Disoriented. Confused. NOT in her right mind at all!

I will be seeing her IN PERSON on Wednesday.

It seems to me, that there has got to be an aromatherapy answer for my friend! Something, that is going to help her with clarity of mind, and help her purge this poison from her body.

I keep thinking Lavendar oil. I don't have a very extensive collection yet - and I don't know her family well enough to know if they would be open to an "alternative approach".

Though, I may give her a "scented hankie" - which may "do wonders" for her - if only I know what to use!

My current "little arsenal" is comprised of the following:

Lavandin (super)

Clary Sage

Geranium (pelagonium graveolens0

Wild Camomile (ormenis mull...worn off)

Eucalyptus (F. ucalyptus radiata)

Ylang Ylang III

Patchouli

Lilac

Sandalwood

and

Nag Champa

I am just starting out with these, and so I don't claim to be even close to "expert" on these. I do know I used the Lavandin when my son had his surgery - and it worked wonders!

TIA,

Dawn

Be careful there. My mom is allergic to Scopolmae which is the

anesthetic many surgeons use. She has been subjected to it twice.

The second time the anethesiologist never noticed the sticker saying

allergic to Scopolmae and gave it to her any way. She was diagnosed

with Alzehiemers in 1994. The first time it took her 2 weeks to get

over the allergic reaction; the second time it took her 4 months.

She could not recall anyone in the family for 2 months of that time

period. Make sure that your friend was tested for allergies and that

they didn't make an error. Robin

is she on post surgical pain medication? That should

be a consideration before treating her with anything

else.

Thank you Mouse,

I have talked to her granddaughter, and her granddaughter is willing to listen to options! We agree this all seems to be caused by "conventional medicine" and the anesthesia.

I will be forwarding all answers and input to her granddaughter.

Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you - my in-box has been swamped with over 13,000 "new" messages.
