Hi Ivan,

I don't have a practice, but I dream of someday running my own business, and what I consider the best advice I've read for free publicity is to write a news release for the local newspaper. Write it in the third person (or have someone write it for you), announcing the new business in town and what people can gain from your services, and have a question-and-answer interview with you.

Good luck :)

Hi Connie and everyone,

I am an aromatherapist and newly qualified hypnotherapist. I have

previously practised as an occasional aromatherapist but now want to

go from part time to full time. I am based in Colchester, essex.

Many thanks

Ivan,

The local newspaper(s) is an excellent idea. If you are lucky, they

may even send a local-interest reporter to interview you and take a

photo.

Look for health fairs. They will usually let you set up a table for

free. Then you can get creative to attract attention and inform

people about your business. Just be sure to have plenty of business

cards, etc.

Get involved in a community project. For example, if you are a

massage therapist, do some free chair massages at a " Walk for the

Cure " for Breast Cancer. Or hold your own benefit and donate the

procedes to a charity. Do something for a good cause - if you put

positive vibes out there, good things will come back at you.

Look to see if your community has a chamber of commerce. Then Join

it and network with local business men. If you patronize them, they

will help spread the word about you, the new guy in town.

I hope these suggestions are useful. Good luck.
