Guest guest
Hi, Neh'ada The are alternatives to getting Omega acids from fish. One good option is supplements made from Perilla oil (also known as Zi Su). We also need to make sure that we get the right balance of Omega 3, 6 and 9. Guest guest
Hello Suzanne, I had not heard of Omega 9 and also thought that 6 was one we do not want a great deal of. Is this so? Is Zi Su an herb? Does it incorporate all three? Also, what is MSM? Guest guest
Hi again, Neh'ada Omega 9 is also called oleic acid. It is supposed to help lower cholesterol. From what I know, yes, you want mainly Omega 3's, but the other EFA's (essential fatty acids) 6 & 9 are also helpful. In the formulation I sell, there are 270mg of Omega 3, 70 mg of Omega 6 and 65 mg of Omega 9. Perilla or Zi Su would be considered an herb since it is part of the same plant family as mint. Yes, perilla contains all 3 Omega acids. MSM stands for methylsufonylmethane and is a form of sulfur. My understanding is that it helps so many different conditions because it is present in uncooked/unprocessed foods, which of course most of us don't get enough of. Hope this helps, Suzanne www.practical-health.com > Hello Suzanne, > I had not heard of Omega 9 and also thought that 6 was one > we do not want a great deal of. Is this so? Guest guest
Neh'ada-- Depending on how you eat, you most probably get more Omega 6 (found in high concentration in vegetable oils and thus in chips and other processed snack foods) than you need. Most people need to take less Omega-6 and supplement with much more Omega-3 (if a person is allergic to fish oil, a good source is flaxseed oil). I certainly would not get a product that includes Omega-6 unless I was tested to see if I was one of the rare people who didn't have enough. Too much Omega-6 is not harmless--it can cause health problems. Guest guest
Thankyou too Dennis for this information. I have talked to my friend and she has also told me she is allergic to nuts! I'm assuming flaxseed oil comes from a seed or nut?
