I was 34 years old, before I ever had the experience of seeing a louse.

However - what I did learn - is that you have to wash all the bedding in HOT water. Preferrably wash all hats, coats, scarves, shirts and ALL clothing in HOT water.

If you can't launder it -- put it in _sealed_ plastic bags for 3 weeks or more.

Our first bout with these buggers - cost us $300 in laundromat fees. (BIG family)

Vaccum all mattresses. Put plastic covers over mattresses, and for a few weeks, even put the pillows (if you can't wash them) in plastic bags, inside the pillow cases (that have been washed in HOT water).

If you are female, or have daughters -- also make it a point to wear your hair UP if you go to the movie theater. I have heard that movie theater seats are hot beds for lice infestations.

Hi Dawn,

Your post reminded me of a habit my daughter and I have gotten into.

Both of us have really long hair and I usually wear mine up in a

pony-tail or bun. (I put it up in a bun when still wet and can leave it

like that for two days with no problem plus I have really neat curls

when I take it down - I like that!) Anyway, her hair is to soft and

silky to stay in a pony-tail so she usually has it down. One night at

dinner it kept getting in her face so I grabbed a cloth napkin and tied

it into a little scarf for her. Now she wears a scarf everyday, almost

all the time, but Especially when we are out and about. She has dozens

in all colors and patterns to match whatever she is wearing.

I'm like you - I had never had lice as a child and had never seen one

before we got infested a few years ago while at a government agency!!

There was another family in the waiting room and Morgan picked them up

from their little girl. Freaked me out when I realized what it was, let

me tell you! After going through all that and putting all her stuffed

animals in bags for weeks on end I decided never again and we are always

precautious now. Imagine telling a 2 yo that her Elmo and Dolly had to

go on vacation and wouldn't be back for 3 weeks? She didn't like that a

bit, believe me! lol... And her room looked so empty it broke my

heart, ya know? I hope we never get them again but if we do I think I

can kick it quicker now that I know about Neem and tea tree...

The up side is she looks very cute in her head scarfs and it is such a

habit with her now she won't even sit down to eat or leave the house

with out one! I love it. She is getting too big to use the napkin ones

anymore so I am learning to make cute ones out of bandanas.

Peace,
