Guest guest
I am fully aware that this group is all about alternative medicine and the holistic approach to healing and symptomatic relief. I am dedicated to the idea that religious topics, per se, are not appropriate on this list and I am never going to attempt to proselytize on this list for any religious body, nor will I seek to further the cause of any theology or theological body of thought by using this list as a sounding-board or a soapbox. I believe that it is tantamount to proselytizing at your place of employment. You are on your employer's time and not your own. I worked under a retail store manager not too long ago, who was also in school to become a pastor. He is a pastor, now, but while he was a manager he was forever trying to get his employees to " come over " , as it were, to his religious belief. Mostly, he just made people uncomfortable, which, I figure, did nothing to further his cause. Having said that, however, I am of the opinion that your belief system has a very great bearing on your expectations of success in your endeavors, on your readiness to practice your healthcare regime, and on your perseverance in the face of problems which you may encounter in that practice. I do not purport to know how a belief system actually functions in the life of an individual, though I have my thoughts and opinions on the subject. I understand that many studies have been done on the subject and that the results do point toward a reasonable conclusion that a person's faith in the hoped-for and desired outcome of any therapy or procedure is directly related to the success of that therapy or procedure. Conversely, if you don't believe it will work, odds are it won't. This is for various reasons, such as your unwillingness to give it a chance to work, not following through properly, quitting outright, inability or unwillingness to commit to your endeavor, etc. Well, I said all that to say all this: From time to time, I might relate an experience or express an opinion which might reflect my faith or religious viewpoint. I don't see how anyone, of any faith or belief system, could possibly avoid any mention of it or any allusion to that person's faith or belief system. I think that it is impractical to expect all mention of religion or religious topics to become taboo. One is bound to slip through from time to time. As long as the main, primary, overriding subject is legitimately on topic. As far as I am concerned, if a person wants to strip naked, paint his or her nose green, and stand on their head in a corner of their room worshipping a fishbowl, they have every right to do so. After all, it is no skin off of my (green) nose. I just don't think that they should use the list to try and make other people join them in it. ______________ Sign Up for Juno Platinum Internet Access Today Only $9.95 per month! I'd make this statement about anything, not just religion. I appreciate " this worked for me " or " I believe this works. " I don't appreciate " This is the true way, and you should believe in it, too " whether it's about a religion, an herb, a crystal, a pill, or anything else. > As far as I am > concerned, if a person wants to strip naked, paint his or her nose green, > and stand on their head in a corner of their room worshipping a fishbowl, > they have every right to do so. And if their experience was that doing that healed them of plantar's warts or S.A.D. or lowered their blood pressure 20 points, then I think it's on-topic here. Guest guest
I'm very new but that statement certainly sounds reasonable to me.
