Guest guest
Hi There! I am not a counselor, but I am a R.N. in a hospital. I use REIKI on co-workers and those patients I have who will except it. As a Nurse, I touch my patients anyway. When I touch them with intent to heal, my reiki kicks in. My patients don't really understand reiki, but they want me to touch them and make them feel better. I can also do AROMATHERAPY with a DOCTOR's order. I work on a surgical floor. Surgeons are trying to get their patients to pass gas so that they can eat and go home. They welcome non narcotic methods for pain control to keep the patients more comfortable. Gas Pains occur because of decreased peristalsis, so the goal is to increase the peristalsis so they can pass gas. Narcotics do not work for gas pains- narcotics slow down the peristalsis, hence taking longer to pass gas. I dilute Sweet Marjoram with grapeseed oil- 1%, lightly massage to person for 20 minutes. usually either lower legs and feet or back. If they did not have a abd wound, I wound use the belly- but They always have a wound there. .. I try and teach my patients relaxation techniques so that they will achieve better pain control. Any way, that is how I incorporate alternative/complimentry medicine with nursing. Simplistic answer: Just by doing it. However, you may need to wait until you're in a setting that supports alternatives. I've pretty much always been into alternatives. I got a graduate degree in ministry first and focused on a lot of counseling work. I went to a grad school in psych that incorporated alternative approaches. In the meantime, I studied body and energy healing. Then I just did it. I synthesized in whatever way seemed right to me. And yes, I still continue learning new things. Guest guest
Thanks, that's pretty much what I was thinking. Hopefully I'll be able to find a setting that does support the blend. I've always had a very holistic approach to everything, even as an athlete. The mind- body connection in sport, as well as illness, is crucial to success. a distance runner, I am always trying to make that point to my colleagues who think more miles is the only way to improve. Thanks to everyone for your input! , " Michael D " <ohanamd@e...> wrote: > > My question to those of you who are already in practice is: how do I > > combine the foundations of alternative healing with the traditional > > techniques I will be learning in school? > > Simplistic answer: Just by doing it. I've been through traditional counseling myself and found it somewhat helpful but, as pixiegirl said, lacking in the components needed to tie it all together and help ME, within myself, fully recover. I'd love to hear from some of you, either here or via email, as to what your background is, how you incorporate your beliefs in alternative healing into your practices, and what additional training you might have received, even if it is self-study.Thanks in advance....JP**************************************************WWW.PEACEFULMIND.COM Sponsors Alternative Answers-HEALING NATURALLY- this is the premise of HOLISTIC HEALTH.
