Guest guest
Well, it's when they donate blood, being " borderline " and having them do the secondary test. (For those of you that don't donate blood, they generally prick your finger and put a drop of your blood in a solution that tells them if you have enough iron to be allowed to donate. If the test is inconclusive, they take some blood and run it through a machine that gives your hemocrit reading. If the reading is below a certain level, they won't let you donate. If you're close to the reading but over it, they take the blood but warn you that you're low on iron.) This person, like me, has no health insurance so running to the doctor and asking for tests is a last alternative to be used only if we have no other choice... But thanks, Pam, for the tip. I'll explore whether it might be something else... - Anna > " Pam B " <PamB >Re: iron deficiency > >My question would be is it true iron deficiency, (was iron levels check >specifically?) or was the person told he/she had anemia and to take iron? >You can become anemic from missing a variety of minerals, iron just being >the most common. Copper deficiency will make you anemic, as will an >inability to process VB-12 - that would be called pernicious (sp) anemia.
