Guest guest
Hi, I'm new and I have a question. Is it possible to not have burning with urination, when one has a kidney infection? I mean, I have chronic bladder infections, and don't have the burning sensation then, either. The reason I ask is, for the last five days, I've been very " sick " . At first, we assumed it was a cold or sinus infection, because I'm very susceptible to sinus infections too. I started taking over the counter sinus meds with fever reducer, and I don't feel the sinus problems anymore, but the rest of my symptoms are still with me, and seem to be getting worse. It all started on Thursday, when I noticed a sharp pain about an inch or so above my waist (but going down to my waist) on the left side of my lower back. I have kids, so I thought I had just pulled a muscle playing with them, or something. I have slept on a heating pad for 4 of the last 5 days, and the pain just seems to be getting worse. I used some topical ointment on it, and it helps, but it doesn't relieve the pain entirely, and as soon as it wears off, the pain is right there again--it hasn't lessened any during the whole 5 days. I didn't have any of the other symptoms till Friday. I am basically sore all over, every joint hurts (mostly from shivering so much/being tense), but what hurts most is the spot on the left side of my lower back. My fever has been fluctuating too--I was only in the 101 range the first two days, but yesterday got into the 102 range, and today my highest temp was nearly 104 (it has gone back down to 101). I get chills so bad that I can't stop shivering no matter what I'm wearing-- I have to cover my head with the blanket to be almost totally warm, but feel like I need gloves for my hands; and I'm extremely parched, though I've drank nothing but bottle after bottle of water, and hot decaf tea with honey these past few days. I do not have a sore throat, I do not have sinus problems now (and haven't for the last two days). I would like to just think it's a virus of some sort, but my husband seems to think it's a kidney infection. I looked up the symptoms, and I do have all of them but the burning with urination. However--I find that in the first two days, I seemed to feel the need to urniate often, and now it really sneaks up on me--when I have to go, I have to go right then and now-- and there is a " sick " odor afterwards, it is darker than normal, and I noticed a white milky discharge as well (I know this is graphic, I'm very sorry). Then, afterwards, I have frontal abdominal pains on the left side, exactly where the pain is in my back--and I am very nauseous--can hardly even drink water and have to immediately lie down. I'm very tired too. So, do the signs still point to a kidney infection? I don't want to make a Dr.s appt. unless I really need to, I don't have health insurance. I also don't want to go overboard with my " home diagnosis " either. Sorry this was so long ang graphic, I thought I should tell you everything possible to get good answers. Thank you! Guest guest
Ocean, It is possible, as I never have burning with mine. In fact I have no symptoms at all till I start urinating blood. And then I go like 3-4 drops. I had a general checkup one time, and my doc called me at home and said DON'T you have any UTI symptoms?? I said no, why? And she said get to the pharmacy now and pick up the script I left for you. Now, I will notice a slight increase in body temp, so I check that often, and the last two times I had a sore spot in my back above my waist, which I attributed to sleeping weird or something. Then when it happened again, I thot..kidney. I see a specialist now, instead of a family practice doctor. He has given me a running script for antibiotics, because when I have it, I HAVE IT! and I just can't wait for an appointment. I need the meds immediately...no symptoms, until it's so bad I can't stand it. Please get to your doctor as Diana suggests..you don't want to lose your kidney or worse, by not getting on antibiotics. I may have to have my kidney removed, but I sure am praying that I don't. I drink plenty of water, always have, and cranberry juice, but I guess I am just one susceptible to the infections. Any suggestions on other methods to ward them off? Deanne --- Diana <dsavage wrote: > I think you need to run not walk to a doctor as soon as you can. You need > medical attention immediatly. They can usually be treated with antibiotics. Keep on with the feverfew and aim to drink at least 6 litres of fluid a day. You only tend to get pain on micturition if cystitis is associated with urethritis too. Blessings Andrubear " And when the Magick believes in you, how can you not. . .. Guest guest
hehe, 15.00 bucks! thanks. After she gets her trouble under control there are plenty of immune and antibacterial herbs that she can use to rebuild the body. I personally hate going to doctors, I have a nurse practitioner who is wonderful. My kids have not gone to doctor in years, the slightest sign of cold/fly I break out my teas and increase the C plus we now take grapefruit seed extract. Echinacea is awesome in moderate doses. I also have a chronic condition that specialists just see dollar signs as I walk in the door, then they do my blood work and it is great so I must be doing something right. I hope she goes to a doctor soon, gee a 104 temp as an adult in not good. Nice talking with you all. Guest guest
Hi all, Thanks for your kind thoughts and replies, I really appreciate them. My husband spoke with one of his friends last night, who is an oncologist, and he said there is a bad strain of the flu going around, and the Dr. asked my husband if I was having lower back pain on one side. . .which I think is weird to go along with the flu. . .but that was one of his first questions. Hubby mentioned that we thought it might be a kidney infection, and he said that he knew someone else who had it and thought the same thing at first. I have to blame myself for part of the back pain too, though--all that shivering and trying to stay curled up to keep warm did not help at all--so I just layered on warm clothes till I was comfy, and laid straight on my back and tried not to do anything for a whole day. . .the back pain is gone. . .false alarm on the kidney infection, thank goodness. Anyway, we spoke with my Dr. today and he said it would have to run its course, and that I could take some over the counter flu stuff for it--but he did tell me to make I sure I called him if I didn't get better in two days, or if I started getting worse. He also said that if I was having trouble keeping liquids down I would need to call him because I would have to go to the hospital to get IVs (ick--been there for that before) to keep from becoming dehydrated. He said the fever would be more "worrisome" if it stayed high, or hovered around a high number for a long time, but it goes up high, then starts coming back down pretty quickly. Last night before I went to bed it was perfectly normal. When I woke up this morning it was 103. (that was after sleeping in thermals, a terry bathrobe, and a thick comforter when I got the chills at 6 AM) I feel a lot better today, have been in bed for the most part (well "on couch" is more appropriate), and the fever hasn't been much over 101, with no chills yet (a first--I've had chills every other day since this got bad). I've also been able to eat more today (and retain said food, thank goodness--have been having trouble with that these last two days). My throat is sore today, and I'm coughing too, so I know it is just the flu. I'm really sorry if I scared anyone!!! Thanks again for your supportive advice, Ocean Y!
