Lilly,

the first thing I would do is get him off the milk and check to

see what his protein vs veggie/fruit ratio is.. The milk is

probably one of his problems. Contrary to popular beliefs..milk is not

good for animals, human or the four legged kind, beyond babyhood..How

may calves and foals do you see guzzling milk after they are past the

baby stage?

Here is an article you might find interesting.

OSTEOPOROSIS

By Dr. Regan

Golob, DC

Osteoporosis is

one of the most common yet least understood bone diseases. It affects

about 15 million Americans to some degree. It is showing up in people

as young as 25 years of age.

Osteoporosis

occurs when there is not enough available calcium for the bones to

rebuild properly -- more calcium is lost from the body than is

replaced. The bones are alive, just as our skin is alive and the cells

that make up your bones today will be different in one year. Back to

our old premise " the body doesn't do anything wrong, it is only

trying to survive. " The bones can act as an Alkaline Reserve for

all the acid foods we eat, buffering blood, nerve responses, muscle

control, blood coagulation, blood pressure and heart rhythm. If this

calcium that is borrowed is not replaced, osteoporosis will

develop.

The cause of

osteoporosis is too much protein. Protein is essential to good health,

but too much protein is a leading cause of poor health. We get protein

from meat, poultry, fish, milk, eggs and cheese, animal proteins and

to a lesser extent, grains and legumes. There is even some protein in

vegetables and fruit. However, animal and grain proteins produce an

acid residue in the body that needs to be neutralized by alkaline

minerals before they can be eliminated from the body. If over time we

eat a great deal of animal protein, the minerals continue to be lost

and our alkaline reserve depletes.

Recent research has

shown that if your diet contains more than 47 grams of protein, more

calcium will be taken from the bone than is replaced, i.e.

osteoporosis. If your alkaline reserve is depleted, a slice of bread

can cause osteoporosis.

This table will

give you an example of grams of protein.

ACIDS GRAMS of

PROTEIN

6 oz. Beef Sirloin 54

6 oz. Poultry 40

1 Cup Lima Beans

16

1 Cup Whole

Milk 9

1 Slice Bread 3

1 Egg 6

I Piece of Chocolate Cake

5

ALKALINE GRAMS of

PROTEIN

1 Cup Green Beans

2

1 Cup Grapefruit Juice I

As you can see, it

is very easy to eat 47 grams of protein. Milk is supposed to help in

preventing osteoporosis, but since man got involved, i.e.

pasteurization; the calcium becomes an inorganic calcium -- you may as

well eat dry wall, or antacids, oyster shells, dolomite, calcium

carbonate to list a few. The above type of calciums get into the

bloodstream but cannot be used to rebuild or replenish our bones. They

can contribute to hardening of the arteries or arthritis. The body has

to do something with the unusable calcium.

In conclusion, eat

more fruits and vegetables, eat less animal protein, stay away from

processed milk, soda drinks and unusable forms of

calcium!

nightly leg cramps

My 15 years old son is now active in his school's soccer

team. A few nights I was awakened by his screams due to leg

cramps. He only gets leg cramps when he is involved in lots

of physical activity. I'm wondering if there is something

he can take for this. I don't believe he needs calcium

because he drinks a gallon of milk (1%) every two days all

by himself. Any ideas?

My son also had " growing pains " as many allopathic drs..and I feel so

bad now knowing that his problems were mineral deficiencies..and that

his health now might be different if I had known to keep him off milk

and use some good minerals.

I used to have restless leg syndrome and my back-sciatic nerve hurt

so bad I had a difficult time traveling. I met the chiropractor

whose link I furnished on another post..and he had me change my

nutritional program, which includes much more water than I used to

drink, *no dairy products* except butter..no grains except brown

rice, and good chelated mineral supplements. My leg and back problems

are completely gone. I eat a ratio of 80% fruits and veggies, and 20%

protein.

What we have been taught, is not to treat the symptom, which leg

cramps and restless legs are..but to go to the source of the

problem..which in this case is not the right balance of minerals..as

well as perhaps a need to change the nutritional program.

I've know of several people who have suffered from these type

problems who have used a chi-type swing machine to solve them. It can

be even more effective when combined with increased nutritional

factors, however, just by itself it can cause the body to experience

tremendous healing sequences. For those who don't know of these type

machines they have been used for many years throughout the Orient,

and about 4-5 years ago were introduced into the US. You lie down on

the floor, place your ankles into the cradle on top of the machine,

relax, turn on the machine and it does the work and you get the

benefits. It swings your ankles/legs in a side to side motion which

causes your body to wiggle similar to a fish swimming. They are

wonderful for giving the body a passive aerobic type exercise,

increasing the oxygenation throughout the body from a massaging

action that goes from head to toe. This can include incredible

reactions in problem areas of organs, digestive tract, colon, etc. as

well. It seems so unrealistic, and to me at that time, stupid to

believe that something this simple could actually do any good. I

initially thought it was a great marketing scam that would do the

promoters much good in their wallets, but the consumer would once

again get taken to the cleaners. I had heard of the machine about a

year before I was reintroduced by a friend who was almost 70 at the

time (3 years ago), diabetic, and had other problems. I was so

astounded at his testimony of what it had done for him is just 5

months of use that I decided I'd at least give it a try.

It had a money back satisfaction guarantee, so I figured

I'd try it, prove myself right that it was a scam, and send it back.

Well, I knew the very first time I used it that it would be with me

forever. I was able to eliminate heel spurs, leg pains, ankle

problems, lower back pain, and a chronic shoulder and neck condition

from an automobile accident 30 years before that despite $1000's of

bucks with the chiropractors I still was suffering from. Funny thing

is that my Chiro now uses them in his practice too, as do many others.

However, there is a word of caution. Due to my skepticism, and my

failure to heed the advise of what I was told, instead of starting

out for just a few minutes on the machine (5-8 minutes and I've seen

some people who start at under a minute) I started

with the 15 minutes they recommend you build up to over several days,

or even weeks. At the end, when the machine turned off, I felt as

though I would levitate right off the floor. I knew that anything

that could cause that type of sensation within my body had to be

doing something that would probably be beneficial. I was right, it

was, and two days later I thought I was dying - from flu like

symptoms. It also pumps your lymph system very efficiently, and I had

a major detox started. LOL Within a few more days I was feeling

much better. It does work very well. I'm still using it regularly,

and it will continue to be a part of my daily " stay well " program.

Many Olympic, professional and amateur athletes use the machines for

warm ups as well as cool downs.

You are oh so right. I believe the root cause of most of the

diseases today can be traced to mineral deficiencies causing acidosis

which causes oxygen loss and the body begins falling apart.

Do you have a site or link where I could look at this michine or where one

could purchase it. A few years ago I had an introduction to one at a

health fair in Burlington, Vermont and was give the name of someone in

Vermont who sold them, but of course, lost the name.

Thanks

Do you have a source for the purchase of these machines. I experienced one

a couple of years ago in Vermont at a health fair in Burlington, Vermont and

had an address of the presenter in Vermont but lost it. I did feel a

difference in the one demonstration I had, though.

There are several models available from various sources. Some are

very inexpensive, and last about that long too. The one I personally

recommend is found at http://www.V4L.com Click on Products, and

then on Health Therapy.

Thank you again for your all your replies on leg cramps. My son has been eating

a banana a day and taking magnesium

supplements. He says he's been feeling a lot better in the morning because his

legs don't hurt so much anymore - plus he

hasn't had a leg cramp in like a week.

Doug

I'm curious about the Chi machine. Did you buy your own machine or do you go to

a spa or somewhere to get the treatments? If

you did buy your own machine, how much did it cost and if you have a web site,

please include it.

Hi Lilly

I actually own 4 different machines. I have one of the very

inexpensive ones ($99) which I picked up just to show the difference

between the low end and it's poor quality construction compared to

some of the more expensive, but much better quality machines. The

most expensive was $480, and two were $399.00 each. As a distributor

($25) with one company that price drops to $299. While the quality of

machine construction is important, the smoothness of it's operation

is probably more important. You don't want one that is harsh in it's

movement. http://V4L.com Then look under Products and then under

Hi,

Sorry I didn't get in on this sooner; I'm sure everyone else knows

what they are talking about as well though.

I suffered from this frequently when I was younger--I was a retail

store manager, on my feet and constantly moving for 13+ hrs a day

sometimes.

My Dr. told me it was a potassium deficiency, as someone else

mentioned--and suggested that I take Gingko Biloba tablets for it(I

detest bananas). I know you said you don't want something he'll have

to take continually, but it really does help. I also bought one of

those mini-massagers with the ball-tip attachment to work out the

cramps if I forgot to take the tablets.

Having him rub his calves and soles of his feet down nightly before

going to bed will help too, if he will do it. Start behind the knee

and work down to the foot, like working out a cramp.

Blessings,

Ahreinya Hazelle

I read someplace that one baked med. potato has more

pottasium in it than a banana does and I like the

baked potato with some yummy dressing beter that that

chemical ladden banana.

Thanks for the info Ahreinya

The potassium in bananas is working great with my son. Plus thanks for the info

on Gingko - I didn't know they were rich in

potassium - great info to know.
