Guest guest
G'day all, In regards to the message posted about a virus warning, it is a complete hoax. For more details, check out this link to the Symantec (Makers of Norton Antivirus) Virus Encyclopedia: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/jesus-hoax.html Before distributing email warnings, please take a look at a few details - forwarding hoaxes is as bad as passing on the virii in question. (In fact, it is what allows it to work -like- a virus. After all, it is now replicating!) 1) Virus warnings are not distributed by email! > This information was announced yesterday morning from IBM; > AOL states that this is a very dangerous virus, much worse than > " Melissa, " and that there is NO Remedy for it at this time. 2) Take a look at the " officials " to make this seem legitimate. IBM - maker of PCs and Servers. Absolutely nothing to do with virii. AOL - An Internet Provider (for want of a better description.) Again, nothing to do with virii. Both of these companies will not make a virus report, because it is not their business! It would be like saying that Toyota and Coke are warning about this new virus... Also, check out what the Melissa virus does - it redistributes itself via email. Not too destructive, so why quote it as being worse than Melissa? > Some very sick individual has succeeded in using the reformat > function from Norton Utilities causing it to completely erase all >documents on the hard drive. LOL! Here's some more clues to the fact that this is utter crap! There is no such thing as a " ReFormat " utility, let alone be part of Norton's! > It has been designed to work with Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer. LOL again! This is some wonderful virus, eh? It uses Nortons Utilities (which not everyone has) with Netscrape of MSIE? Where do the two connect? > It destroys Macintosh and IBM compatible computers. In which case, we need to find this virus writer and champion him to pioneer a new age of computer programming! Mac programmes will not run on Windows or vice versa (without emulators). A virus is a programme, therefore it will not run on two architectures. And Nortons Utilities was never released for the Mac. :-) It's pretty easy to spot a fake. Just read the message and check it out before you pass it on. Don't perpetuate the myths. You can always do a keyword seach at the Symantec virus definitions: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/vinfodb.html/ Now, enough FUD (Fear, Uncertainty & Doubt) please... Cheers, Tom
