RE: Managing perimenopause naturally

Hi Tamara,

Is it possible that the flashes and the frequent, painful periods are two

separate issues here? If you've been managing the flashes okay, but now

have these frequent cycles with a lot of pain, is it possible that you may

have endometriosis? I have a friend in the UK who has been having similar

problems but without the flushes - she's only 28 so not perimenopausal yet.

Have you had that angle checked out - if so, there are methods of treating

without drugs - I understand that both homoeopathy and herbal medicine can

work well, as can acupuncture. What about a possible fibroid? I have a

small one and the increase in blood flow and pain has been tremendous since

it appeared. If this is the case, then taking oestrogen will perpetuate it,

not help it.

Another thought - has this come on since starting the soy capsules? They

must have a relatively high phyto-oestrogen content - is it possible that

they have themselves triggered this state? Is it worth leaving them off for

a couple of cycles and seeing if there is any improvement? May be worth a

try...

Either HRT or the Pill are bad news really...

Love, light and peace,

Sue

Hi, Sue.

Sounds like I share some of your problems: menstrual cycles coming more often. I'm seeing a family practitioner who gives me herbs and also suggested vitamins and minerals. It seems to be helping. The bleeding is much much less. The cramps are much less. The no. of days of bleeding is still pretty high and the no. of days off is too low. But it's getting better. How do I know if it's the herbs or if I'm finally going into menopause? I don't know and I don't care, really. I also have a fibroid. I'm going to a doctor of oriental medicine. I just started seeing him so I'm going to stop the herbs from my family practitioner to do the ones from the D.O.M. He says " I don't treat your disease. I treat the reason for the disease." I hope it works.

Good luck.

Cheryl

Sue,

Thanks for your response. I doubt I have endometriosis, as I have had 2

exploratory surgeries in the past and it was never found. I do however,

have fibroids and I did read just the other day that as the estrogen

drops, they either remain the same or shrink. I have had no pain with

my fibroids since I've noticed the perimenopausal symptoms though,

including now. I have always had bad, painful periods but have always

been very regular. Over the past year, the regularity has changed, to

sometimes every 2-3 weeks instead of 4, one time 10 days apart, now 5.

When I say I have pain, it is the same as always, but I was just trying

to say these are not " light " menstrual cycles, but normal for me, just

more often.

I know the pill is bad, but I think the estrogen in them is not as much

as the hormones they give in HRT. However, I cannot live like this and

there is a real risk of anemia in this condition. Do you know of a

natural way to reduce my menstrual cycles or regulate them? Although, I

feel this is natural (the perimenopause), but I just cannot stand it as

some women I talk to say it can go on for a year or more, with some of

them I know being on their menstrual cycle all the time.

HI Cheryl,

I have been told that you cannot beat Chinese herbs for any menstrual

problems. I haven't had a lot - I got pregnant with my little girl before

I'd rectified my period problems which started after my D & C with my third

miscarriage. Obviously didn't continue and as I'm still breastfeeding, I

can't go back to them yet. But I have been using a blend of Nettle, Cramp

Bark, Yarrow and Wild Yam, together with a tincture of Agnus Castus, and

it's been doing well for me...

Good luck to you too.
