--Self Image and Health--9/28/2001

How does our self image affect our health? How do

our thoughts, words and actions affect our health? Do

you believe there is a connection between mind and

body? Do you believe in cause and effect? How often

are you alone? Do you see yourself as ugly or

beautiful, plain or wholesome? Are you worried about

some illness you might get, and find yourself feeling

the symptoms? Do you feel indestructable, work and

play hard, and don't worry about your health? Do you

affirm your strengths or weaknesses? Is your glass

half empty or half full? Do you see the connection

between all these things, and how they affect your

health?

Why is that beautiful woman so alone? Why is that

handsome man so unhappy? What do they have beyond

their appearances? How healthy are they? How do

they see themselves? How do they project their images

to others? Is your self image the one others see?

What face do you wear among them?

When someone says you're not good enough, do you

believe it? Do you see yourself as a failure or

successful? Are you always tired? Do you eat well

but can't relax? When you fail, do you stop trying?

Do you stress easily? Can you stop in a tense

situation long enough to step away or take some deep

breaths? Could you finish a frustrating project later

on, when you've calmed down? When something makes you

angry, how long do you carry it around? How well can

you channel that anger so it won't eat at you, so it's

not bottled up inside till you explode? When you're

angry, do you get drained? After you've calmed down,

how often do you realize how pointless your anger was?

Can you laugh at yourself? How often do you ask,

" Why was I so angry in the first place, " or " could I

have handled that differently, and, how? " Do you

worry yourself into illness? Would you recognize it

if you did? Which came first, worry or disease? How

much relaxation time do you give yourself? Can you

concentrate? Is your focus weak or strong? How well

can you quiet your mind? Can you meditate? What do

you see yourself as? Are you jumpy, calm, practical,

wise, impulsive, outgoing, critical, carefree,

dreamer, even tempered? Do you hold grudges long or

can you forgive? How hard are you on yourself? Do

you reward yourself? Is your posture slumped or

upright? How stiff or limber are you? Are you rigid

or open minded? Do you jump to conclusions or can you

look beyond the surface?

It's all related to each other. How we see

ourselves does affect our health. You don't have to

believe it, go find out for yourself. Read, question,

cross reference, don't just take my word for it.

Think about your life, your actions and reactions,

thoughts and words, the people and events you attract

to you, it's all related.

Feelings of loneliness lead to depression, which

leads to tiredness, for example. I speak from

experience. All I speak of has some basis in personal

experience, either by me or someone I know of.

Experience is our roadmap, our teacher and guide. One

way I handle stress, anger, fear, lonliness, is

through writing. These essays help me sort through my

feelings. Many are deleted after writing because they

don't seem important enough to keep. Often it's

because I lost focus, and sometimes, I just rant.

Have you ever written an angry letter, and then

deleted it, or torn it up? When I first began doing

that, I felt so good! It is a great " therapy " , a

wonderful technique for anger management, and will

greatly reduce your stress. Would you give it a try?

Can you see the relationship of all these things?

It's ok if you don't agree with me, I still consider

you a Friend.
