Good Morning All!

Many of the posts on cleansing rituals that I have made lately have involved the use of a smudge stick and so I thought it was only fair that I posted instructions on how to make one.

SMUDGE STICK

1. Fresh herbs are best or fresh and dried combined.

2. Try to gather herbs as they come into blom during a waxing moon. Approach the plant with respect and ask it's spirit for permission to use it in the smudge - you will need pieces around 8-12 inches long (16 - 24 cms).

3. Gather materials together and light a candle asking the spirits of the plants to help you to make a powerful smudge.

4. Take a sturdy stick as a base. Arrange the other stems around it. Keep the dried herbs on the inside. Add cornmeal or tobacco.

5. Take a piece of thread or animal hide and tie it around the stick, starting at the bottom. If you want to add dried herbs that are powdered or crushed; you can put these on the inside of the smudge stick as you start to bind the bundle.

6. Tie your smudge stick quite firmly. The thread should reach at least halfway up the length of the stick.

7. Now hang your smudge stick by the tied end somewhere warm until it is almost dry but not totally moisture free.

Sage brush - Transforms energy and brings in change.

Sage - Wisdom and healing.

Sweetgrass - Attracts positive energy.

Lavender - Restores balance and creates a peaceful atmosphere. Attracts loving energy and spirits.

Cedar - Deeply purifying useful for clearing negative emotions and healing.

Mugwort - Stimulates psychic awareness and prophetic dreams. It also banishes evil spirits.

Juniper - Used to purify and create a safe and sacred place.

Yerba Santa - Used to purify and set and protect boundaries.

Rosemary - Powerful healer - brings clarity.

I hope that this information helps all of you who perhaps were not quite sure of what a smudge stick was. Incense in also god for "smudging" and is used in much the same was. Sandalwood incense is good for clearing and protecting and cal be burned in doorways while other clearing work is being done.

Have a great day!!

Warm Blessings to you all

Thank you for the instruction. I am currently reading a wonderful book

called " the witch's shield " . It covers protective magick including

cleansing and clearing out " harmful energies " . Smudging is one of the

techniques he suggests. I dislike the smell of Sage smoke but it might

not be too unbearable if combined with lavender or cedar.

Thanks again.
