Blessing your Home

This technique can be used when first moving into a new home and then should be carried out on a yearly basis (if not more often).

1. Collect everything you need at the centre of your home. Remove shoes and any jewellry. Light your smudge stick and smudge yourself and the items to be used.

2. Quietly centre your energies and invoke Spirit by saying "I call upon the guardians of the elements, Earth, Fire, Water and Air to help me cleanse this home. Wait a moment until you feel the presence of these four great guardians surrounding you.

3. Once you feel them, light a candle, affirming "I light the fire that glows in the heart of the home. May peace be here."

4. Move through the rooms in the home, saying in each room "Cleansing power of the Spirits of the smoke, drive away all negativity. Bless this home and bring it joy and laughter." Walk back to the centre of the house and light your oil burner. Drop seven drops of lavender oil into the water in the burner, saying "May this home be a haven from the world." Visualize the scent of the lavender mingling with the smudge, carrying joy, security, peace throughout the home.

5. Stand quietly for a minute or so, watching the candle and then bring your hands towards your heart, holding the candle as you affirm "Let the protective flame burn steadily in the heart of my home."

6. Blow out the candle when you are ready and extinguish the smudge, thanking the spirits of the smudge for their help. Finally thank the guardian spirits of the elements and your guides, teachers and friends for their assistance.
