FROM DR. LEO REBELLO - AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE

Dr Victory Lakshmi : We still drink water from a Matka (earthen pot).

My wife ties a big bob of cotton to the tap in the kitchen, which is changed

everyday. Then we pour that water into the matka through a thick muslin

cloth and everybody who visits our home, including foreigners, like our

experiment. I rarely drink bottled water, that too when I am travelling abroad.

For your information, in my home I have deliberately NOT kept the following

deadly gadgets :

1.. Television -- also known as boob tube or idiot box.

2.. Refrigerator.

3.. Washing machine -- because our Kamvali Bai is more reliable.

4.. Microwave.

5.. Electric Iron (we give our clothes out for ironing, as and when required).

6.. Water filter.

7.. Airconditioner

I have a mobile phone, which I rarely use.

I even disposed off my posh airconditioned car eight years ago.

My message is - life is simple, do not complicate it.

All the best

Dear Dr.Leo Rebello,

Bottle water may be dead water, but unfortunately that is what we drink !

We have no choice. If there is an alternative, please suggest.

Your website is very informative.

Warm regards,

Dr.V.

But Ronnie, no one is perfect. Even if you can’t do everything, do something, anything.

We can only point fingers if we are doing at least as much.

Indeed I have a computer, but I am not a slave of it.

I also have a house, but I can also sleep in the jungle.

I am talking of simplying life. Your comment is unnecessarily

judgmental and flippant.

Dear Dr. Leo,

I have entered the discussions on this topic rather late but I am intrigued. These gadgets do simplify life and scientists have raked their grey matter to make our life comfortable and simple too. If we do not want the CRT type TV then more healthy option is to go in for the LCD type TV provided we can afford. If we wish to avoid the microwave radiation then we can go in for the Infra-red oven in place of the Microwave oven. Scientists have been relentlessly working on these subjects. Why then we wish to have an austere life unless it is for spiritual pursuit?

Sai Ram. It is from energy conservation point also apart from spiritual point of view. No one is forcing us to do it. He is just informing us how he lives. I have all the gadgets that he is avoiding but am spiritual (I consider my self to be spiritually inclined). I can live without all these gadgets if needed.Swamy--- On Wed, 4/23/08, Sunil Bhattacharjya <sunil_bhattacharjya wrote:Sunil Bhattacharjya <sunil_bhattacharjyaRe: [HealthyIndia] LIFE IS SIMPLE ... Spirituality has very little to do with kitchen gadgets - would it not be more due to personal preference? However the Masters have been known to prefer their clothes washed by hand and food preparation also as much as possible by hand to give the peaceful vibration not found in the violent agitation when these duties are performed by machinery.

Just as you would notice if you turned all the power and the lights off in your home one evening and enjoyed the peaceful quality of candlelight - the brain begins to relax - try it if you haven't already done so, and feel the difference it makes. Candlelight and electric light have very different vibrations.

Best,

Jane

Dear Babara: Thanks for your kind letter below. Well your parents' names sound familiar. But I cannot place them immediately. Maybe if I were to see their photographs etc. I may remember.

My schedule is busy and I am in Bombay. Nevertheless, I wash my clothes, whenever I get time or when I am travelling, in the bath tub of the hotels. No separate soap -- the same soap or water which is used while bathing wash the clothes. .

As regards ironing that is minimal -- because I mostly wear wash and wear clothes.

And yes, we too used to keep our clothes under the pillows. But whether Kamwali Bai or Dhobi,

I look at it that they too earn their livelihood. Infact, I do not wish to brag, but our maid sits at the same

table for meals, eats the same meals with us. Not rukha-sukha (remnants) like some rich people

give to their servants. And we also give monthly leave, medicines when they are ill, annual bonus

to our help (not servant mind you).

And hold your breath (not because my mouth is smelling), but because I rarely use tooth brush

to clean my teeth. The tooth brush weakens and damages the gums and flouride toothpaste

is a dangerous poison to give to children specially because many children like eating toothpaste.

We use herbal tooth paste.

And by the way Barbara -- do you give your children Coca Cola, Pepsi, Aerated waters - full of Aspartame,

to drink? Aspartame, also known as Nutrasweet, Equal, Spoonful, Equal Measure, Benevia, Natra Taste,

Canderel. 80% of complaints on food additives, received by the US Food and Drug Administration, are about aspartame. The American FDA lists 10,000 aspartame complaints with 92 reactions, including death. The effects include mania, rage, violence, blindness, joint-pain, fatigue, weight-gain, chest- pain, coma, insomnia, numbness, depression, tinnitus. And Barbara, have you given Vaccinations to your children? There are so many things which are not necessary. But under pressures of various kinds or due to ignorance, fear, or advertising madness,

we ingest deadly things. And Barbara, I am vegetarian -- what about you? I am NOT trying to put you down,

but just sending you a reminder (since you are a social worker). Do keep in touch. See my website : www.healthwisdom.org for more details. With love,

Leo
